FMFRP 12-12, The History of the Medical Department of the United States Navy in World War II, Volume I. The document highlights the importance of specialties such as aviation medicine, submarine medicine, and amphibious medicine. The Hospital Corps of the Navy and the Navy Nurse Corps also played crucial roles in the war, with their bravery and dedication to duty saving countless lives. The Naval Medical Research Institute at Bethesda, Maryland, was established during the war and became a center for research in naval military medicine. Workers in various scientific fields contributed to the prevention of disease, relief of suffering, and saving of lives.
