The Document: On 31 May 1950, the Illinois State Police interviewed a civilian couple, Dr. and Mrs. Mc, in Wilmette, Illinois. The couple reported seeing a strange object in the sky over Lake Michigan on 16 May 1950. At 2045 hours, Dr. Mc and his wife were seated in their parked car on the shore of Lake Michigan, just south of Wilmette Beach in Washington Park, when Mrs. Mc called the doctor's attention to a strange object in the sky over the lake. The object was traveling south at a tremendous rate of speed and initially appeared to be a shooting star. However, Dr. Mc realized that the object was not a star but appeared to be some type of aircraft. The object was approximately 50 to 100 feet in diameter and appeared to be traveling on a set course, 6 to 8 miles from shore. The object was in sight for three or four seconds and traveled 50 or 60 miles in that time. The altitude was estimated as 25 degrees above the horizon. When last seen, the object had changed course and was headed out over the lake. The object fluoresced with a pink hue. Context: The document is part of a series of reports on Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) received by the U.S. Army.
