What did the declassified documents reveal?

Declassified presents an intelligence memorandum from the National Security Agency. This record, dated March seventh, nineteen-fifty-one, details Soviet and Satellite Air Order of Battle and Significant Air Developments during the first week of March, nineteen-fifty-one. It offers a snapshot of intelligence concerns during the early years of the Cold War. You can find this document on archive.org, under the identifier C-I-Zero-Zero-Six-Seven-Five. This document was released through an unknown Freedom of Information Act request, at an unknown date, with declassification authority from the National Security Agency. The version we are reading today is from The Black Vault's archive of U.S. Intelligence on China. The document begins with a standard Cold War warning: "This document contains information affecting the National Defense of the United States within the meaning of the Espionage Act. Its transmission or the revelation of its contents in any manner to an unauthorized person is prohibited by law. Top Secret." The memorandum then reports on the Far East, specifically Manchuria and Korea: "An increase in enemy jet activity during the past week was noted. Seven engagements with M-I-G-Fifteen type occurred, while only three took place during the week ending February twenty-seventh. The tactics of the M-I-G-Fifteens were similar to those displayed in the past; however, the proficiency of the pilots was generally poor, lending further credence to the possibility that the jet unit in Manchuria has been rotated or reinforced with a unit of less experience. The enemy pressed its attacks on four B-Twenty-Nines near Sinuiju on March first, damaging two friendly aircraft. In the other encounters with U-S-A-F jets, the enemy was not aggressive and caused no damage. Late photo and reconnaissance reports indicate that continued airfield improvement and repairs are being undertaken by the North Korean Air Force. There are indications of activity at a number of airfields in North Korea, including Pyongyang, Chongjin, Wonsan, Hamhung West, Yonpo, and Heemun. Prisoner reports reveal that Communist troops expect some air support in their coming offensive. It is believed that there are twenty-two airfields north of the Thirty-Eighth Parallel which could be placed readily into operation. If the enemy were to utilize these airfields, he could extend his radius of action and increase his time in the battle area considerably. Reports of training flights in Manchuria and North China continue to come in from fairly reliable sources, but there are no indications of an early commitment of Communist air strength on a large scale." The document continues, addressing China: "Flying activity was reported in the Shanghai area during the week. Reports of airfield construction continue to reflect the overall build-up of Chinese facilities and the training of units. A reliable observer reports that construction work on Nai-tai Airfield at Foochow is nearly completed and air raid…
