What did the declassified documents reveal?

From Declassified, this is what the public record looks like at its most ordinary. This is a declassified record, dated June nineteenth, nineteen-fifty-one, from the United States Strategic Air Command to General Headquarters, Far East Command. It discusses air reconnaissance requirements over Manchurian and Chinese targets and the challenges in obtaining approval for such missions. This document is available at documents2.theblackvault.com. This document was released under the Freedom of Information Act. It bears a declassification stamp indicating review by the Strategic Air Command in nineteen-ninety-one. The information it contains was originally classified Top Secret. The document reads: Top Secret. Auth: C. G. S. A. C. June nineteenth, nineteen-fifty-one. Headquarters Strategic Air Command, X-Ray. General Headquarters, Far East Command, Office of the Chief of Staff. A. P. O. five hundred. June nineteenth, nineteen-fifty-one. Major General T. S. Power, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska. Dear General Power, Activities during the past week have again centered around reconnaissance. Last weekend, I visited the five hundred forty-eighth Reconnaissance Technical Squadron at Yokota in order to view the results of the radar scope photo mission flown on Catherine eight hundred ninety-one and Jane thirty-seven Sarsfield paper. In my opinion, the scope photos obtained on these two targets fulfill our requirements. Copies of these photos are now on the way to Guam. The mission flown over targets Catherine eight hundred ninety-one and Jane thirty-seven Sarsfield paper was met, according to the crew, with a surprising amount of airborne opposition. I assume that you now possess a copy of the mission report prepared by F-E-A-F Director of Intelligence. I am not convinced that the report, insofar as airborne interception is concerned, should be taken at face value yet. I have thoroughly interrogated the crew and believe that they, during the course of the mission, became unduly excited. I, therefore, am inclined to somewhat discredit the report until such time as we have procured additional information. Since we are planning a similar mission this coming week, we should be able to procure additional information on the enemy night fighter interception capability. In conjunction with F-E-A-F, we are planning another mission of similar nature on Target Lucille six hundred seventy-two on Sarsfield paper. The request to conduct this mission is now in General Ridgway's office. In order to expedite our reconnaissance, we propose to give to F-E-A-F a complete list of Manchurian and Chinese targets on which radar scope photos are required. F-E-A-F will then lay the whole requirement before General Ridgway in the hope that he will approve the complete program. This, of course, would be ideal for it would obviate separate permission from C-I-N-C-G-F-E for each mission. If this does not work, we will attempt it on a piecemeal…
