Ichiang apparently captured less than two hours later." "Landings followed morning air attacks, at least sixty sorties, on Ichiang and Tachens by Chinese Communist fighters and bombers. After air strikes, Communist artillery on Toumen shelled Ichiang, started 'intense fires,' according to M-A-A-G, apparently softened garrison before attack. Full extent of Tachen losses during heavy air raids on eighteen and nineteen January not yet known, but believed hard hit. Some [redacted] installations [redacted] demolished on eighteen January, others heavily damaged, but no American casualties. Chinese Nationalists say seventy tons of relief supplies given Tachen garrison as Christmas gift from American relief societies were destroyed. Communist I-L-ten attack bombers focused their eighteen January attacks on Tachen radar, but whether radar destroyed not known.
