This is Declassified. Today, we're examining a declassified C-I-A record detailing military activity in China. This document, from August seventeenth, nineteen-fifty-five, provides a snapshot of tactical intelligence during a tense period. You can find this record at documents2.theblackvault.com. This document was released by the National Archives and Records Administration, N-A-R-A, and has the internal identifier C-I-Zero-One-Two-Three-Four. It was declassified by the A-A-R-O, the Assassination Records Review Board, under the authority of Executive Order twelve-thousand-nine-hundred-fifty-eight. The document is a Naval Message, from CINCPAC/CINCPACFLT to the Weekly PACINTSUM, with info to CINCFE and CNO. It is marked "Secret" and "NOFORN." The report reads: "PACINTSUM Number Twenty-Three. One. China Nationalists Ground. China Nationalist Ground activity during period consisted of two recon patrols and the firing of two-hundred-five rounds artillery at Chinese Communist positions on Ta Teng, the mainland and at Chinese Communist small craft vicinity of Ta Teng, Amoy and Hsia Chiao Islands. Majority rounds (one-hundred-forty-six) fired August twelfth at Chinese Communist positions on Weitou Peninsula to cover withdrawal of G-R-C patrol. Fifty-one man patrol which landed vicinity Yung-H-S-I-A on Weitou Peninsula on August twelfth engaged in skirmish Chinese Communists for one hour twenty minutes withdrawing under cover of China Nationalist Naval and Artillery fire. One China Nationalist soldier killed in action and three missing in action. Increased recon activity and size of patrols in past sixty days probably indicates China Nationalists now more willing to take increased risks in effort to increase recon activities this area in view of advanced stage of training program of Chinmen Garrison Recon Elements and repeated efforts by M-A-A-G advisors. On August thirteenth China Nationalists on Matsu landed eight man patrol on Chuan Shieh Island about twenty-five thousand yards west Matsu Shan with negative results. However patrol on its return captured small boat with five Chinese Communists aboard. This first time since arrival eighty-fourth Division on Matsu in late March fifty-five that any recon patrol has been reported. Two. Chinese Communist Ground. Chinese Communist Ground activity during this period remained at low level with routine training and construction activities being reported. Only aggressive activities reported were discovery of two Chinese Communist frogmen who evaded capture on northeast tip of Chinmen during late evening hours of August ninth and the sighting of a small fishing craft in the same general vicinity the following morning with Chinese Communist soldiers aboard. Craft withdrew when fired on by China Nationalist Artillery. During past two weeks Chinese Communist recon efforts have increased and have been concentrated on northeast tip of Chinmen however no particular significance is attached as believed to be normal…
