MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT: Resume of Mission C158C 1. General: Mission C158C was alerted on 17 October 1968. This was the pilot's fifth operational mission. Preplanned Mission Data: Distance - 1172 Nautical Miles Time to Landing on 3+20 Hours Mission Profile Maximum Altitude Take off Fuel 895 Gallons. Fuel Reserve at Hi Cone 250 Gallons. This route was designed to collect Elint data in the Shanghai area and then south along the Taiwan Strait to abeam Taiwan. This mission was routed off the coast of the China mainland. 2. Actual Mission Data: The scheduled take off time of 01452 was made good and the aircraft landed at 0540Z for a mission duration of 3+55. The overall track of the mission was good. A base power failure was experienced at 02182. Change over to emergency power was accomplished without any adverse effect to the mission. a. Target Coverage: No primary camera was on board so no targets were programmed for this mission. This was an Elint mission. b. Weather for the mission area was forecast to be Category II. The pilot reported the weather as being better than briefed except for the northern part of the mission route which was slightly worse than briefed. The pilot was able to visually maintain the desired track throughout the mission. 3. Air Defense Reactions: 5X1D b. Fighter Reaction: No contrails or unfriendly aircraft were sighted by the pilot. 7. Maintenance: Article 383 was flown on this mission. The only aircraft discrepancy was UHF radio intermittent during let down and on approach. 8.
