There is a kind of loneliness that doesn’t mean your life is falling apart; sometimes it means your life no longer fits where it used to.
You stopped answering certain calls; you stopped forcing yourself into rooms that drained you.
No more confusing history with compatibility. You stopped entertaining people who only knew how to love the version of you that tolerated less!
And now….
it feels so fucking quiet…
Maybe a little too quiet… because even when chaos was unhealthy, it still felt like company.
Even when certain friendships exhausted you, they still filled your weekends. Even when that relationship was inconsistent, there was still someone to think about, wait on, argue with, and hope for.
Listen…when you finally remove all of that, peace can feel a lot like emptiness!
That’s where people often get themselves in deep trouble. They begin to miss what they worked so hard to escape. They revisit old conversations; they reopen doors that should have remained locked! They confuse familiarity with love, and they begin telling themselves that maybe it wasn’t that bad, but loneliness has a way of making the past look softer than it really was.
It will often convince you that something was valuable simply because it was available!
The lie is…
If my life were really getting better, I wouldn’t feel this alone, but sometimes life improves through subtraction first.
Less access, less explaining yourself!
Less chasing and pretending.
Less emotional confusion.
Less time spent trying to convince people to treat you well, and that subtraction creates space before life decides what belongs there next!
That space can feel uncomfortable, but empty does not always mean something is actually missing. Sometimes empty means something has finally been removed.
THE SOLUTION…
Stop treating every empty space like an emergency. You do not have to replace the relationship you left immediately.
You do not need new friends just because some old friendships no longer fit.
You don’t need to text someone who cannot love you correctly because tonight feels lonely.
Some seasons are teaching you how to exist without using other people as distractions from yourself.
Let your life become quieter…
Build routines that belong to you…
Go somewhere alone…
Make something..
Rest, please… for the sake of everything, fucking rest!
Call the people who actually pour back into you..
Learn what your days feel like when nobody else is constantly disturbing your peace…
The goal is not to become someone who needs nobody…
The goal is to stop needing the wrong people just to avoid being alone… and before you reach backward this week…
I need you to ask yourself this…
Do I actually miss them or do i just miss having someone there??
Those are two completely different kinds of longing..
Maybe nothing is wrong…
Maybe there isn’t a person keeping you awake at night… confused…
Maybe there isn’t a crisis happening in the group chat…
Maybe you aren’t checking your phone every ten minutes waiting for someone to suddenly become consistent…
Maybe your nervous system is finally experiencing an ordinary week…
You spent so much time asking for peace that you forgot peace would probably be quieter than the life you were used to…
Let it be quiet…
There are versions of your life that require you to arrive without certain people. There are friendships you cannot find while you are still forcing old ones to survive.
There is a fucking love you will never recognize while you are still obsessed with being chosen by someone who keeps making you feel like your best bet is to settle for a romance that will never align.
Joy might initially feel boring to the version of you that got used to emotional chaos.
Keep going anyway…
Sometimes the loneliest part of changing your life is realizing you can no longer return to what was familiar, while what is meant for you has not arrived yet…
That doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice… it means you are between lives… and maybe the Sunday Solution is this…
I would rather sit inside temporary loneliness than spend another week abandoning myself just to have company!
And if this season of your life feels like rebuilding… quietly, painfully, but intentionally…
I made The Woman Rebuilding Herself: A 30-Day Journal + Poetry for exactly that space.
It’s for the woman learning how to come back to herself after giving too much, staying too long, carrying too much, or simply realizing she wants more from her life than survival.
