So, what happens after the federal government identifies 20,000 ballots in one state that were likely sent out to non-citizens? Surely something can be done ahead of Election Day to make sure those ballots that are returned aren’t just automatically counted along with ballots of those who have the right to vote? Because if they’re counted, each one of them will cancel out the vote of an American citizen.
Well, here’s what happened in California: After determining that so many ballots had been wrongly sent out, the DOJ filed an emergency motion to sequester the ones that were returned. The case was heard on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge David Carter of the Central District of California.
As ** told by Jennifer Van Laar at RedState**, the DOJ’s motion requested that the court order both California and LA County “to segregate vote-by-mail ballots from any of the 20,000 people on a list of people they’d determined are ‘likely noncitizens’ who are registered to vote in the state.” Seems reasonable, doesn’t it? You know, to safeguard democracy and all.
Think again.
