Hello to our MC360 community.
Fall is here, and fresh apples are one of the best parts of it (pumpkin, too... there’s room for everyone). So, we’ve got something fun for you today!
This ** Low Histamine Apple Pie Smoothie** features fresh apples, cardamom, ginger, vanilla, and coconut milk.
It tastes like apple pie. It takes five minutes.
Apples are also a solid source of quercetin, which is helpful for mast cell stabilization. And it’s packed with fiber and nutrients.
So, this recipe is doing more than just being delicious.
And we’d be remiss if we didn’t address another question we often get about a popular addition to smoothies... What about protein powders?
They are a potentially helpful tool if you are struggling to get enough protein and nutrition in due to sensitivities.
Like many things with MCAS, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to protein powders.
Some people do well with one, others tolerate another, and some don’t tolerate any. Some are high histamine, oxalate, or lectin. And most are high salicylate.
But that doesn’t mean you don’t have options!
Here are a few you can consider:
— whole food lupin bean protein, lectin-free, low FODMAP, and low oxalate. Those with peanut or soy allergies may react to some of the proteins in lupin because they are similar. In our experience, this one is often best for those a little further into healing or more robust. But it’s a great option for those who do tolerate it! Use codeMIKUNA Pure ChochoMC360for 15% off.— lower in salicylates and oxalates, but not suitable if you have Lectin Intolerance.Pea Protein by Vital Nutrients— lower in lectins, but high in oxalates.Hemp Protein by Manitoba Harvest
Even without protein powder, this smoothie delivers fiber, vitamin C, and healthy fats from the macadamias and flax.
As always, we suggest starting with just a sprinkle and working up slowly. And always talking to your practitioner who knows your case to decide what may be right for you.
