*In today’s newsletter, Brazil heads toward a presidential runoff after conservative Flavio Bolsonaro emerged ahead of socialist incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Note to the U.S. Media: polling had suggested the opposite would happen. *
The United States has withdrawn its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford following reports of additional threats against the British base. The war with Iran is also producing new developments in Yemen, where government forces have launched a major offensive against the Iran-backed Houthis. Finally, we examine another increasingly important battlefield in the conflict: cyberwarfare.

Here’s yet another great lesson on why you should ignore the polls:
Over the weekend, the presidential election was held in Brazil, and pollsters assured us that oppressive socialist incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was a solid favorite to win. In a shocking turn (not shocking to us, but whatever), ** conservative Flavio Bolsonaro (whose father was jailed by da Silva) was leading by 47.24% to 44.91%** with 99% of the ballots counted. Since neither got above 50%, there will be a runoff. Other conservative candidates also scored victories across the nation.
The people of Brazil not only turned out in massive numbers to vote, they’re swarming the streets to celebrate the conservative tidal wave. As US conservative commentator Benny Johnson posted on X, “What we are witnessing in South America is the total rejection of Communist tyrants and the embrace of freedom.” If Brazil’s leadership switches from left to right, it will represent the latest and largest nation in South America to reject socialism for a government that is friendly to the US and that President Trump can make deals with. That’s great news both for the US and the people of those nations, who often lecture our know-nothing college students about what socialism really is.
And speaking of voters dumping socialists, young Americans who are clamoring for socialism might also want to ** ask someone from Spain how well that worked out for them**.

Following last week’s arrest of some men believed to be plotting a terrorist attack on the RAF Fairford air base in the UK that’s used by the US military to launch missions against Iran, US commanders ** have removed all B-1 bombers stationed there**. The bombers have been sent back to their home bases in the US. Intelligence picked up reports of new threats against the base. We can’t imagine that the unimpressive British response to the threat (a farmer spotted the men and called authorities, who didn’t answer the phone at first; while the government later released them on bail) filled the US commanders with confidence about UK security measures.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the plot was likely backed by Iran while Tehran denied involvement. But ** a NATO military source told Reuters** that “it is still believed that Iran poses an acute threat to US assets in the UK.” From what we’ve seen recently, the UK government poses an acute threat of turning the UK into Iran.
In ** welcome news on the Iran war**, Yemen’s military announced that it’s launched a major offensive against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels who have been attacking other nations’ oil facilities and interfering with shipping routes. Yemen’s government vowed to keep fighting until the country is “liberated from the grip of the terrorist militia.”
Also, the price of West Texas Intermediate crude fell Monday by 1% to $90.21 a barrel, and it was reported that in four of the last seven days in September, Middle East oil exports rose above pre-war levels.
Note to any leftist protesters in the West who are defending Iran (and there are far too many of those): On Monday morning, Iran executed two men involved in the January protests against the government.
This is a sobering article about a new front in the war with Iran, and indeed, a new front when dealing with any adversary, whether we’re openly at war or not. It’s a vulnerability that ** our leaders haven’t done enough to secure**, and that’s the web-based infrastructure that much of our economy, electronic communications and power grid are dependent on. Iran has already launched multiple attacks on it.
