The doors of the church are open. Good morning, Saints.
Beloved children of the sun, I want y’all to know that there are some of our own Black people among us who don’t wear the white hood or the robe, who don’t burn crosses, but they keep on doing the ideological work that the Klan has always needed done.
This morning I’m talking about white supremacy’s handmaid, John McWhorter, who recently wrote a gaslighting column for the *New York Times *bearing the headline “Are Lynchings Really Happening?” In this piece, McWhorter tries to turn Black folks’ legitimate fears, suspicions, and questions about dozens of Black hanging deaths into paranoia.
McWhorter is doing what scripture describes as bearing “false witness.” He is distorting the wisdom of Black perception and vigilance to comfort power. He’s saying that we are stuck in the past and pretends like he doesn’t understand our fears. He treats Black folks like we are “seeing ghosts” when we are actually recognizing America’s evil historical patterns reemerging.
