Greetings everyone. One of our very best candidates of the cycle, Bobby Pulido, dropped by for a live - and encouraging - discussion earlier today. A video recording and rough transcript of our conversation can be found above.
This is Bobby’s second time to come by and talk to our community. Here is some of what he said:
Our race is not about talking points. It’s about actually listening to people. It’s about giving a shit, right? Caring about them. And really, really going and focusing on fighting for them. And not even mentioning-- I don’t ever say like “We’re gonna turn blue!” — That’s not something that we talk about. Because my district has more Republicans than Democrats, right? So in order for us to win, we’re going to have to get Republicans to vote for us. And, how you are going to do that is absolutely not coming with a partisan message. It’s coming with a message that is tailor-made to this region, through connection with the people, whether that be a quinceañera like we did or whether that be an event or a concert, right? It’s just finding that cultural connection to where they get to see… we’ve gone in front of 25,000 people to this day. We’ve gathered their data, right? That’s a lot of people at a retail level. That is much more powerful, I might add, than just a door knock because it’s actually putting you in front of those people. And so, it’s a lot of work, it’s time-consuming, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I think that’s what it takes to win in a tough district.
With James Talarico leading in every statewide poll since Ken Paxton won the Republican nomination for Senate this is a year of opportunity for us in Texas. A new independent poll released last week shows Bobby up 50%-45% despite being heavily outspent in a newly drawn district that Trump would have won by 18 points in 2024. This new Texas Southern University poll found all three heavily Latino South Texas districts breaking towards the Democrats and the rancid GOP gerrymander backfiring on the Rs in TX-28 and TX-34:

Bobby outraised his opponent, incumbent Monica De La Cruz last quarter but needs to keep raising to remain competitive. Here is Bobby talking about the current state of the race:
We’re getting badly outspent right now on TV. [De La Cruz] was up in mid-July, and they’re outspending us — week 12 to week 8 — 17 to 1 on TV. We’ve had to up those expenditures. But we’re raising money — we out-raised last quarter by $400,000, which is very hard to do against an incumbent, and at the pace we’re going, we’re definitely going to outraise this quarter. But we really need more support. We don’t want to get to a point where we run out of money with three weeks left in the campaign.
So things are going really good. We’re working hard on the ground — we just had an event in Beeville a couple of weeks ago. Bee County voted 70% for Trump and it’s 70% Hispanic. We just drew, in a town of 13,000, 2,750 people at an event.

Bobby Pulido was born and raised in Edinburg, Texas, where he still lives today with his wife. He is the proud father of four sons, raising his family in the same community that shaped him. The son of a farmworker-turned-musician, Bobby grew up surrounded by the values that define South Texas: hard work, humility, family, and faith.
After graduating from Edinburg High School, Bobby studied political science before pursuing a music career that would make him one of Tejano’s most recognized voices. For nearly three decades, he traveled the world performing, but his heart has always remained in the Rio Grande Valley.
Beyond the stage, Bobby built a life as a small business owner, signing paychecks, balancing budgets, and navigating the challenges that so many Valley entrepreneurs face. Those experiences gave him a firsthand understanding of what it takes to create opportunity in South Texas — and how important it is to invest in people and communities.
At home, Bobby is most proud of being a husband and father. Raising four sons in Edinburg has deepened his commitment to creating a better future for the next generation. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and spending time outdoors, staying connected to the land and traditions of the Valley.
Bobby is a South Texan who understands the struggles families face because they are his own: rising costs, a healthcare system that too often fails, and an immigration debate that ignores the realities of border communities. He believes in practical solutions, honest leadership, and putting people ahead of party.
Bobby’s life has always been about connection — listening to people, telling their stories, and building bridges across communities. From his earliest days growing up in Edinburg to his career on stage and his work in business, he has carried with him a belief that service to others is what matters most.
