Good morning. I’m Ryan Rose, and this is AlterNet America. Please take a moment to click the ❤️ and restack this post. The oligarchs’ platforms are trying to keep stories like the ones below from hitting your feeds, and this helps us break through.
Trump’s top federal prosecutor in Miami just resigned three days after the midterm elections. Ivanka Trump’s birthday trip to Morocco cost taxpayers $93,000 in hotel bills. A pardoned Jan. 6 rioter has been charged with threatening to execute federal judges. And Big Tech lost a trillion dollars in a single day after Democrats took back Congress.
Before we get started, the billionaires are squeezing independent media and we need your help. Our stories are being suppressed on Facebook, where many of you first discovered us, after we called out Mark Zuckerberg for being a Trump lackey. Elon Musk, the GOP’s top donor, is also censoring AlterNet America’s stories on his social media platform. We’re clearly getting under their skin, but we can’t keep this work going without you.
By subscribing, you ensure these stories go directly to your inbox, where they can’t reach, and your voice becomes one more the billionaires can’t silence. You’re also keeping this publication free for the people who can’t afford a subscription. Become a paying member today.
It’s amazing how quickly people find new career opportunities when someone says “subpoena.”
The top federal prosecutor in Miami who led Trump’s DOJ revenge probes, Jason Reding Quiñones, resigned Friday. His office had been tasked with bringing criminal charges against former officials in the classified documents case and the Russia election interference probe, but neither produced results.
Quiñones issued a brief statement on X saying it was an honor to have served, but did not give a reason for stepping down. He resigned after Republicans lost control of Congress in the midterm elections, handing Democrats the power to investigate the Trump administration.
Quiñones is the second senior Justice Department official to leave since Tuesday’s elections. The day before, Harmeet Dhillon, who led the civil rights division, resigned.
In September, two other prosecutors working on the same probes had already quit. One was Trump ally Joe diGenova, who reportedly clashed with Attorney General Todd Blanche over the direction of the investigation.
Usually the surprise at a birthday party is for the guest of honor, not the people picking up the tab.
Ivanka Trump celebrated her 45th birthday with a trip to Marrakech, Morocco in late October. The Secret Service booked rooms for its advance teams at two of the city’s most exclusive hotels, costing U.S. taxpayers at least $93,000 in hotel bills, according to records obtained by the Daily Mail.
On Oct. 21, the Secret Service spent $59,543 at the five-star Sofitel Marrakech to prepare the hotel for a “VVIP” arrival. The following day, a second booking for $33,457 was made at La Mamounia, a historic luxury hotel that often hosts celebrities and heads of state.
Ivanka is not listed in the contracting records, but she was the only Secret Service protectee in Morocco at the time. The agency’s own internal database regularly applies the “VVIP” designation to members of the Trump family.
That $93,000 total doesn’t account for agent salaries or the cost of flights, meals or ground transportation. A spokesman for Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, who remains involved in Trump’s Middle East diplomacy, declined to comment immediately on the expenses.
It turns out that forgiving someone for threatening to kill a politician does not discourage them from threatening to kill more politicians.
Cleveland Grover Meredith Jr. threatened to shoot Nancy Pelosi and drove to Washington on Jan. 6 with a car full of weapons. Trump pardoned him. He now faces new federal charges after posting on Facebook that all federal judges who heard Jan. 6 cases “will be EXECUTED.”
Meredith also put out a separate post that named ten federal judges individually and warned that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth “has plans” for them. The FBI was notified of the threats on the same day they were posted and launched an investigation.
A Lawfare study published over the summer found that at least 97 people who have received clemency for Jan. 6 offenses have been accused of new crimes. Meredith is at least the third rioter this year to be pardoned and charged with threatening public officials.
Attorney General Todd Blanche had previously sought to establish a $1.776 billion compensation fund for former Jan. 6 defendants, but senators blocked his confirmation over the proposal. Blanche formally rescinded the fund in July but has not ruled out payouts to rioters who attacked police in the Capitol.
The stock market took the election results about as well as the president did.
The seven largest U.S. technology companies lost $1 trillion in combined market value on Thursday in their worst single-day sell-off since 2025. Stocks dropped on concerns that a Democratic win in the midterms will slow the growth of data centers and artificial intelligence.
The Nasdaq ended the day down more than 5.5 percent, losing an estimated $2.5 trillion in total market value and pushing the index into what analysts call correction territory. Nvidia lost more than $400 billion in market value, sliding more than 9 percent. AMD and Micron lost over 17 percent, Intel lost 10.3 percent and Tesla and SpaceX lost more than $300 billion combined.
Asian companies took a hit Friday, with Seoul’s Kospi index plummeting more than 8.5 percent, triggering a temporary halt in trading. Japan’s Nikkei fell 6 percent, Taiwan’s Taiex lost more than 8.3 percent, and major chipmakers including SK Hynix, Samsung, and TSMC all posted steep losses.
Trump wrote on social media, “The Stock Market suffered one of the Worst Days in History based on the results of the Election. Remember, it wasn’t Republicans.” Republican candidates lost races across the country, and the S&P 500 and the Dow fell 4.4 percent and 3.4 percent respectively, their worst single-day losses since 2025.
This week happened because millions of people refused to be told what to think by billionaires trying to buy an election. Independent media played a role in that. We told you about the Epstein coverup, the deportation abuses, and the corruption that the mainstream media tried to bury.
