After already issuing an executive moratorium on executions, outgoing (thank the Lord) California ** Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an unprecedented** sweeping order to spare the lives of all 548 criminals on the state’s Death Row. He said, "I take this action because I firmly believe that state-sanctioned killing is incompatible with California’s values, undermines the foundations of our legal system, and diminishes each of us."
From the End Wokeness X page, here are just a few of the lucky beneficiaries of Newsom’s compassion.
While the move was praised by death penalty opponents, it was greeted with shock and outrage by the families of these murderers’ many victims. Marc Klaas, the father of 12-year-old Polly Klass who was kidnapped and murdered in 1993 by inmate Richard Allen Davis, said, “He just gave the gift of life to [hundreds of] people who took the gift of life from their victims. I don’t understand his rationale behind it…but it’s probably the same old tired stuff that he said when he did his moratorium.”
When Amb. Mike Huckabee was writing for this newsletter, he often recalled his days as Arkansas Governor and how the hardest part of his job was having to okay executions. He wrote of how he researched every case, going over the trial records to make sure that there were no errors or other reasons to stay an execution. But if he couldn’t find anything wrong, he felt that it was not his place to substitute his personal opinion for the decisions of the jurors who had sat through the case, heard every bit of evidence and carefully deliberated to reach that grave decision. Newsom obviously has no such respect for the judicial process.
We have to assume, judging from the state’s “sanctuary policy” for illegal alien murderers, rapists and drug dealers, that Newsom considers it a “California value” to automatically have more sympathy for criminals than for their victims.
