Catching Up on Infrastructure with Our Country's Top Expert -- Brookings Economist Clifford Winston Larry Kotlikoff Jan 25, 2024 1 3 Share Transcript Under the Biden Administration, Congress has passed two major bipartisan bills -- the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Acts (IRA). The first law and much of the second are designed to repair our nation's ailing infrastructure, improve internet access, significantly accelerate the transition to green energy, and achieve many other goals. The Infrastructure Law comprises 1630 projects distributed throughout the country and the IRA bill provides important support for the transition to electric vehicles and nuclear power. There is no one better than Cliff Winston, Senior Fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Economic Studies program, to catch us on the achievements to date of this legislation and to assess our government's overall approach to infrastructure. Cliff has been at Brookings for what is now four decades. Let me quote from his Wiki page. Clifford Winston is an applied microeconomist who specializes in the analysis of industrial organization, regulation, and transportation. Winston has also been co-editor of the annual microeconomics edition of Brookings Papers on Economic Activity. Prior to his fellowship at Brookings, he was an Associate Professor in the Transportation Systems Division of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Civil Engineering. Dr. Winston received his A.B. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1974, his M.Sc. from the London School of Economics in 1975, and his Ph.D. in economics from U.C.
