Earlier today C-SPAN aired a presentation that I delivered last spring as part of the Seldom Hood History conference, hosted by David Woodbury in Monterrey, California. My talk offered a taste of the kinds of things I am exploring in my current book project about the role of enslaved laborers in the Confederate army during the Gettysburg Campaign.
Now that my biography of Robert Gould Shaw is now completed, I can devote all of my time to this new project—a project that I’ve never been more excited to pursue.
I am in the process of organizing a number of research trips to various archives throughout the country, including the National Archives, the Southern Historical Collection at the University of North Carolina, and Virginia Museum of History & Culture in Richmond.
It goes without saying that all of this takes funding, which as an independent historian I do not have.
