Scheffler's clutch putt sets up Monday play-off vs Hovland at Travelers Championship
Scottie Scheffler showcased why he is the world No 1 on Sunday evening at a rain-soaked Travellers Championship, as the American drained a clutch eight-foot par putt to force a Monday play-off against Viktor Hovland.

Morocco and the Netherlands look to move mountains in Monterrey matchup
Two teams with plenty of connections meet in a ‘clash of titans’ at one of the World Cup’s most picturesque venues
Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi had just been asked what would inspire his players to justify the feverish expectation hanging over them. Would they turn to the example of history, or would they draw on something else? “The biggest motivation the players have is to put on the jersey and represent the country,” he began. “That is motivation enough to move mountains.”
It would be some feat if they managed to alter the geology of Cerro de la Silla, the claw-shaped double peak that overwhelms the skyline around Estadio Monterrey, where Morocco and the Netherlands will play in the World Cup Round of 32.

Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland set for Monday playoff at Travelers
Sometimes you need more than 72 holes.
The Travelers Championship was unable to crown a winner on Sunday thanks to a suspension due to dangerous weather in the area. Matters were concluded relative to the 72 holes of play as noted with Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler each sitting at 21-under for the tournament.
Scheffler bested Hovland by a stroke on Sunday specifically with a round of 68 that helped make up the distance to force the tie. Hovland has been right around the lead all throughout the Travelers, the final Signature Event of the PGA Tour season, and has had plenty of fans in the stands representing Norway with some serious World Cup vibes.
Despite being right around him throughout the entire tournament, Scottie has sort of felt like he has been chasing down Hovland in Connecticut. Maybe the Norway fans have created that ambiance.
Whatever the case, Scottie has plenty of United States support in the crowd as well. Again, the World Cup flavor is ringing true in several senses.
The duo are set for a Monday morning playoff at 9am ET where the format will be hole 18 in a sudden death sense until a winner is crowned. It can be seen on Golf Channel, NBC Sports Network, and Peacock.
Should be fun!

Judge David Doty, who presided over the case that resulted in the NFL's salary-cap era, dies at 96
David Doty, the federal judge who presided over the lawsuit that created the NFL's current labor model, has died. He was two days away from his 97th birthday.
Judge Doty, Minnesota's longest-serving federal judge, handled the lawsuit filed by Reggie White and others against the NFL following the 1987 strike. The union had decertified, and the players challenged the NFL's various personnel rules as antitrust violations.
The 1993 Collective Bargaining Agreement that created true free agency, the franchise tag, the salary cap, and other rules applicable to the player workforce was actually the settlement agreement from the White case. Judge Doty continued to be involved in the resolution of disputes arising under the CBA for years to come.
The settlement agreement in the White case revolutionized the league, laying the foundation for the current non-stop flow of roster transactions and other developments. Before it, there was no free agency frenzy. There were no salary-cap calculations. There were no cap casualties. The agreement has allowed the NFL to dominate other sports not only during football season, but throughout the remainder of the year.
Without the settlement agreement over which Judge Doty presided, the NFL offseason would be far less interesting than it currently is.

NBC sticks with Travelers Championship after weather delay over Yankees-Red Sox
The Travelers Championship PGA Tour event experienced a weather delay for nearly 90 minutes in the final round on Sunday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT. The delay went into the 7 p.m. start time of Sunday Night Baseball between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, but NBC chose to stay with the Travelers Championship, which didn’t resume play until 7:20 p.m. ET.
NBC even showed the Women’s PGA Championship over opting to go to Sunday Night Baseball coverage at all in the final 20 minutes of the delay, and the Yankees-Red Sox game was shown only on Peacock and NBCSN.
Yankees-Red Sox Sunday Night Baseball is on Peacock and NBCSN, while the Travelers Championship’s finish has been delayed on NBC after a weather delay. https://t.co/zand3cJRvW

Very interesting programming decision on NBC tonight — Women’s PGA overrun, then PGA Tour overrun, with Yankees-Red Sox on Peacock and NBCSN. Not necessarily against it, but I imagine it will be unpopular.
— Sports Media Watch (@paulsen_smw) June 28, 2026
NBC was airing the finish of the Women’s PGA Championship, but only as filler coverage while waiting for the Travelers to restart. So the women’s golf was not the reason Yankees-Red Sox was bumped, it would have aired on Golf Channel if the men’s tournament was not delayed.

Dan Hicks: “They think there’s about an hour of golf left.” That’s a full hour preemption of Yankees-Red Sox.
— Sports Media Watch (@paulsen_smw) June 28, 2026
Naturally, this led to some confusion, mocking, and frustration from many baseball fans who expected to see the entirety of the Yankees-Red Sox Sunday Night Baseball game on NBC.
This is all while Sunday Night Baseball is in its first year with NBC after being televised on ESPN since 1990, and after it was moved to Peacock and NBCSN in favor of the NBA’s Sunday Night Basketball for several weeks.
Here’s a look at some of the reactions on social media to NBC’s decision:
NBC blowing off Yankees-Red Sox to air non-major golf tells you all you need to know about MLB.
— Jimmy Traina (@JimmyTraina) June 28, 2026
Yankees/Sox being preempted by NBC in favor of a non major PGA tournament shows how unserious they are about MLB as a product
— Josh Gross (@josh3302) June 28, 2026
Wait where the heck is Yankees-Red Sox with Golf on NBC?
— Shaun Morash (@ShaunMorash) June 28, 2026
What a brutal move by @NBCSports .
A @PGATOUR event that won’t even be decided tonight.
Just trying to drum up ratings for NBCSN for the few people who actually have it? #MLB https://t.co/jmZF4Bdx6N

Once again NBC has disrupted Sunday night baseball, thus time for a golf outing on the National broadcast instead of Yanks/ Red Sox .Maybe by the 4th inning you will get to see Rodon verses Grey.Torture for Sunday night baseball fans.
— Bruce Levine (@MLBBruceLevine) June 28, 2026
Was listening on radio for the first couple of innings, came home and threw on NBC only to find that they were showing golf instead of Red Sox-Yankees. RIVALRY!
— Jared Carrabis (@Jared_Carrabis) June 28, 2026
And after all that, the Travelers Championship didn’t even conclude on Sunday night. Scottie Scheffler made a putt to force a playoff vs. Viktor Hovland that will happen on Monday at 9 a.m. ET.

NBC finally joined the Yankees-Red Sox Sunday Night Baseball game just ahead of 8:30 p.m. ET. And the first pitch Yankees fans on NBC was surely quite maddening, as the broadcast appeared mid-play as Boston’s Caleb Durbin hit a two-run single to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead.

Alphonso Davies’ return brightens Canada’s landmark World Cup moment
The Bayern Munich star changed the game when he came on, opening the space for Stephen Eustáquio to shoot from for the match-winner
For 75 minutes, Canada and South Africa struggled to find a way to break through in the World Cup’s inaugural round of 32 clash. Neither team ceded an inch. Canada couldn’t be baited into intensifying its press as South Africa dawdled playing out from the back. South Africa worked to advance upfield but struggled to find dangerous avenues into the box.
Then, at long last, 345 minutes into Canada’s tournament, Alphonso Davies crossed the touchline for his first involvement at World Cup 2026. The game, for Canada and neutrals alike, greatly benefitted.
