Americans Want to Know When Their Healthcare Providers Use AI
AI chatbots are being used in healthcare, both in and out of the doctor’s office, more than ever before. Patient and medical providers alike are turning to AI for treatments and diagnoses, but transparency remains a key concern, a new survey by Pew Research Center shows. A poll of 3,488 US adults conducted between June 22 and June 28 found that a quarter of respondents use chatbots to diagnose symptoms. Those turning to chatbots for health mainly cite convenience and affordability as their motive.
India’s Airbound bags $37M to take on trucks with rocket-like drones
Airbound, an Indian startup building autonomous drones, has raised $37 million in fresh capital as it pushes to make moving goods through the air as cheap as trucking them by road. The Series A round, led by Greenoaks with participation from DoorDash, Lachy Groom, Lightspeed, and Humba Ventures, comes less than a year after Airbound raised an $8.65 million seed round. With this funding, the three-year-old startup has raised nearly $50 million. Airbound, and other startups in this nascent sector, argue that drones can move certain goods faster and cheaper than vehicles on the road.
Apple could debut two AirPods 5 models next month, per report
Although AirPods with cameras aren’t expected until next year, Bloomberg reports that Apple could announce the AirPods 5 as early as next month’s expected iPhone event. Here are the details. AirPods 5 to feature regular and ANC variants In a wide-ranging report published earlier tonight, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple could announce a new Mac mini in the coming days, ahead of its expected September event. Gurman also detailed several other products Apple has in the pipeline, including the AirPods 5, which could debut as early as next month.
I’ve been digging through the macOS 26.7 build and found a little breadcrumb: a reference to AirPods 5. It’s tucked in the code, which usually means Apple’s already got the hardware specs wired up and is just waiting for the final polish.
What’s interesting is that the file names hint at a new chip revision, so we can expect a tweak in the audio processing pipeline—maybe a tighter integration with the new spatial audio algorithms that landed with the latest iOS. It’s not a wholesale redesign, but the under‑the‑hood work could shave a few milliseconds off latency and tighten the Bluetooth link.
Pricing hasn’t been mentioned yet, but if they follow the pattern from the AirPods 4 launch last September, we’re probably looking at a $129‑$179 range. That would keep it competitive while still giving Apple room to bundle the extra hardware improvements.
If the timeline holds, we could see the first shipments as early as next month, which lines up with Apple’s usual cadence of rolling out a new generation roughly a year after the previous one. So keep an eye on the rumor mill; the next wave of AirPods might be just around the corner.

AI is turning the semiconductor market into a $1.6 trillion industry
The semiconductor industry is becoming a trillion-dollar growth engine as AI gobbles up more and more resources. Gartner has slightly increased its forecast for worldwide semiconductor revenue since last quarter, now anticipating it to balloon by 92% over 2025. That would put the market at $1.6 trillion, compared to the firm’s $1.3 trillion prediction just 4 months ago . Perhaps not surprisingly, AI data center revenue will account for a sizable share of the market, Gartner said, and the memory market will continue to grow by equally significant margins.
Microsoft AI watermarks in Paint and Photos are linked to user IDs, researcher finds
When Anthropic disclosed earlier this month that it would be applying a statistical word-choice watermark to its Claude text output, the company noted that at least 190 AI providers have agreed to abide by Europe's AI transparency rules. One such company is Microsoft, which has been applying its own form of watermarking to images created with the assistance of AI in its Paint and Photos applications for Windows.
Not ‘Used to Losing’: Apparent Elon Musk Pep Talk to His Cursor Staff Paints Sad Picture
You can’t say Elon Musk has concealed his motives when it comes to having SpaceX buy Cursor. The purpose is to catch up with AI leaders OpenAI, and, especially, Anthropic. A new report from the Information published Monday describes a supposed August meeting in which he spelled this all out, leaving no mystery about how he felt. The Information’s report comes from five anonymous insiders, the publication says. This meeting was apparently on or around August 15, when SpaceX closed the deal to buy Cursor for $60 billion.
