French showman falls in straight sets to No 14 seed Monfils, 40, will retire at end of 2026 season Tien reaches US Open third round for first time It would have felt more fitting if Gaël Monfils went out with a roar, with a five-set epic matching the reputation he has built as tennis’s great showman. He may have preferred the kind of bow he made at his home French Open earlier this year, a thrilling five-set fightback that ended well after midnight, or one that had a few more of his dazzling signature shots, like the mid-air forehand that stole the show in his first-round win this week.
Judge grants injunction allowing LSU to sign former NFL players
Get more popcorn ready. Via Pete Thamel of ESPN, Judge William Jorden has converted a temporary restraining order into an injunction. More than 40 athletes now have both NCAA and SEC eligibility. The ruling allows multiple potential players who spent time on 90-man NFL rosters to join LSU for the 2026 season. The deadline for adding them to the roster arrives on Friday. If LSU goes through with it, the SEC will undoubtedly look for avenues to respond, perhaps very aggressively, to the move.

The Clippers lost five future first-round draft picks, were fined $30 million, and owner Steve Ballmer was banned from team and league activities for a year. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst appeared on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt on Wednesday night to discuss the punishment that was handed down to the Clippers. Sports media world reacts to controversial ruling in favor of Lane Kiffin, LSU
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has yet to win a national championship as a college football head coach, but he may be the GOAT of controversy and theatrics. The late Al Davis publicly mourned that he “picked the wrong guy” after firing Kiffin from the then-Oakland Raiders. Kiffin left Tennessee in shambles for USC, and then USC famously fired him on the tarmac. Just last season, Kiffin bailed on Ole Miss before the College Football Playoff to take over at LSU. This Vanity Fair excerpt from John Talty’s forthcoming book, Lane Being Lane, is full of doozies.
