Trump Signs Memo To Remove Canadian Goods From US Federal Procurement
Trump's just signed a memo to kick Canadian goods out of the U.S. federal procurement system. This follows a commitment he made earlier this month and gives the Office of Management and Budget and other agencies the green light to remove Canadian-origin items from federal purchasing. It’s part of a growing trade spat, with Canada recently imposing counter-tariffs on about $20 billion worth of U.S. imports.
The backdrop is a series of escalating tariffs and restrictions from both sides. Canada’s “Buy Canadian” policy is tightening, while Trump has announced new tariffs on Canadian vehicles and certain products, effective in the coming years. He’s also hinted at a potential trade deal, but it’s clear both countries are feeling the strain.
While Trump claims the U.S. has been taken advantage of for decades, Canadian officials are ready to negotiate. They’re looking to strengthen their own economy and diversify trade partnerships, signaling that this back-and-forth isn’t over anytime soon.

Anthropic plans to launch its initial public offering in November, later than the October debut many investors had expected, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday (Sept. 18), citing unnamed sources. The November date may have been chosen to allow Anthropic to share its third-quarter financials, which are expected to show strong results. The date was chosen before the recent debate about whether artificial intelligence is developing too quickly, according to the report. The timing could change, per the report. Anthropic did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment.
