Supreme Court seeks Goa Police’s response on Tarun Tejpal’s appeal against rape case conviction
A Bench comprising Justices M. M. Sundresh and P. B. Varale also issued notice to Tejpal on a Goa government plea seeking enhancement of his sentence. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Tejpal, submitted that it was a case where the acquittal was reversed by the High Court and urged that his bail plea be heard in the matter. “This is a case of reversal, there is a right of appeal, I have surrendered. The High Court itself has suspended the sentence for four weeks,” Mr. Sibal said. The Bench said it will give a specific date for hearing the matter.

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah has proposed establishing a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism led by his country as well as India and China, in the wake of the recent devastating flash floods in the area. Mr. Shah, in his maiden address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on Thursday (September 24, 2026), also told world leaders that a warming climate is destabilising the fragile Himalayan ecology. “The Hindu Kush Himalaya is home to nearly two billion people. These mountains provide water, ecosystems, agriculture and livelihoods to populations far beyond Nepal.
