Northern Ireland's young drivers first in UK to get new driving licensing laws
Northern Ireland has become the first part of the UK to introduce new rules for new drivers in a bid to reduce fatal road crashes involving young people. Graduated driver licensing (GDL), for learner and newly qualified drivers, apply to all new drivers but are particularly aimed at 17 to 23-year-olds. Among the new rules is that learners must spend at least six months getting driving experience before they can take a practical test. Newly qualified drivers under 24 will also face restrictions on carrying young passengers at night.

The Cornell University student who alleged in a lawsuit that she was gang-raped and plied with drugs at a fraternity house in 2024 described the hourslong incident to police in a sworn statement, according to the document, which was obtained by NBC News. Jane Doe told police in part that she had agreed to an initial sexual encounter with two of the men, described being encouraged to take drugs and said she did not remember some parts of the night. “I would say that it was the most intoxicated I’ve ever been in my life,” she told police about how she was feeling later in the evening.
October has arrived, bringing a shift in the garden's atmosphere. The sun still shines during the day, but mornings are foggy, and the light feels softer. It's a beautiful time for gardening, especially as roses continue to bloom, now adorned with plump rosehips that might just become festive decorations if the birds leave them alone. As we dive into this month, there's plenty to do.
Now’s the time for planning your borders and tidying up. While it’s tempting to prune everything, it’s better to leave some perennials standing for structure and wildlife shelter. Lightly trimming climbing roses and buddleia helps prevent damage from wind, while dividing hardy geraniums can give you more plants and clear space for spring bulbs.
Autumn is also ideal for planting. The warm, damp soil encourages strong root growth, which helps plants thrive through summer heat. Consider sowing hardy annuals for a head start next year, and don’t forget to bring in tender herbs like parsley and mint before the frost hits. If you’re looking for a splash of color, now’s the time to order bulbs—many are on sale, so you can snag some great deals. Enjoy the beauty of your garden this month!
Netanyahu says too early to tell who was behind plane incident as flydubai halts all flights to Israel
Israeli prime minister cautions against early conclusions when asked if there were any signs of Iranian involvement Benjamin Netanyahu has said it was too early to tell who was ultimately behind the apparent attempt to crash a Tel Aviv-bound flydubai flight, even as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations called the incident a “terror attack”, without apportioning blame. Danny Danon told Fox News on Wednesday night that Israel had “no doubt that it was a terror attack from a radical individual.

The zero-bills home: how one family is beating the energy price hikes
The Naylors’ four-bedroom home in Milton Keynes acts like a mini-power station after retrofitting solar panels, a battery and a heat pump Clare Naylor paid close attention to how much energy she and her family were using last winter, filling hot-water bottles and bringing out extra blankets to ensure they didn’t go over budget. "Zero Hormuz": Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Readies Tens Of Billions To Turn Fujairah Into Hormuz Bypass
On March 3, just days after the first US and Israeli strikes on Iran, when most of the market was still busy pricing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a temporary inconvenience, we pointed out something that seemed rather obvious (to us): the UAE's oil port of Fujairah, which sits on the Gulf of Oman and bypasses the strait completely, was far too small for its strategic importance - and that would change. Surprising Fujairah is not a bigger oil terminal: it bypasses the straits completely. — zerohedge (@zerohedge) March 3, 2026 Expect major infrastructure push here after the war.
