Pocketbook Over Politics? What China Overtaking the U.S. in Latin American Influence Really Means
For the first time, the 2026 Latinobarómetro finds that Latin Americans see China's influence in their region as more positive than that of the United States: 65% against 57%. The results, released October 2, leave business owners, investors and governments with a practical question about whom to build growth with. A 17-Point Swing in Six Years Since 2020, the share of Latin Americans calling Beijing's influence positive has climbed from 48% to 65%, while Washington's slid from 60% to 57%, Euronews reported. The outlet calls it unprecedented in a study that began in 1995.
