Nuno on West Ham's bright start and being back in the Championship
"Life changes as you get older." A reflective Nuno Espirito Santo, as he looks back on how he has changed as a manager and a person since he was last in charge of a Championship club with Wolves eight years ago. "There are a lot of things that have changed, the league has got harder. There is more quality. But some things stay the same. We still need hard work, honesty." It was the win against Wolves at the start of September that kickstarted West Ham's season.
Jerry Jones expresses confidence in Christian Parker
Despite the tough start, Jones labeled concerns about Parker's job security as "premature." He appreciates Parker's efforts and acknowledges the need to improve, particularly against the run. With only one assistant on staff having prior defensive coordinator experience, it seems the Cowboys will stick with Parker for the remainder of the season.
Tony Romo was disqualified from a golf tournament, on the same day CBS announced his exit
Last Friday was quite a day for Tony Romo. CBS announced his departure from the network where he was the top NFL game analyst. It was a big shift for him, and it didn’t end there. Later that day, Romo was disqualified from a golf tournament after submitting an incorrect scorecard during the final round of a Korn Ferry pre-qualifier.
He mistakenly recorded a four on both the 16th and 17th holes when he actually scored a five on each. Romo owned up to the error, which likely stemmed from his group being put on the clock for slow play. Even with the mistake, he wouldn’t have made the cut for the Korn Ferry tour.
Now, his broadcasting future feels uncertain. Until he decides on his next steps, it seems he’ll be focusing on improving his golf game. It’s a lot to take in for him, but I’m sure he’ll find his way.
As trade rumors intensify, Marvin Harrison Jr. hires agents
Marvin Harrison Jr. is tuning out the trade rumors swirling around him. He’s hired agents Todd France and Tory Dandy from Athletes First, a move he made on September 23. Harrison had a quiet start to the season, with just one catch for 33 yards in Week 1 and none in Week 2.
Even though he hasn’t completed his third season yet, this decision seems strategic. With the trade window closing after Week 9, having representation could help him navigate potential moves to a new team. Under the new coaching staff, he’s been underutilized, and his agents can manage discussions that might lead to a better opportunity for him.
In his rookie season, he shined with 62 catches for 885 yards and eight touchdowns. The following year saw a dip, but he’s still looking to unlock his potential this season, currently sitting at five catches for 85 yards and one touchdown. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out as the trade deadline approaches.
The Cowboys suffered one of their most humiliating defeats with Dak Prescott as their quarterback. They lost 24-16 at home to a previously winless team starting an undrafted rookie quarterback. Dallas is 2-3 and Tampa Bay 1-4. The Buccaneers, who trailed 10-7 at halftime, dominated the third quarter by outscoring the Cowboys 17-0 and outgaining them 197 to 59. The Cowboys got a break when Todd Bowles decided to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the Dallas 1 with 8:36 remaining. Sean Tucker was stopped for no gain by Jaishawn Barham, giving the Cowboys hope.
Colts-Commanders on Sunday morning had less than five million viewers
The NFL's Sunday morning games are making strides, but the viewership numbers still lag behind the traditional slots. The Colts-Commanders matchup from London drew nearly 5 million viewers, averaging 4.987 million on NFL Network. While that’s decent, it's a step down from the 6.2 million viewers for similar games in 2025.
Looking ahead, the Eagles will face the Jaguars this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by the Texans and Jaguars in Week 6. The league is also set to make history with its first-ever game in Paris when the Steelers take on the Saints.
The NFL is eyeing a significant expansion of international games, hoping to increase the total from 10 to 16. This could lead to even more opportunities for Sunday morning matchups. While the current numbers aren't breaking records, they still provide a nice addition to the usual Sunday afternoon lineup.
Cowboys close to within 24-16 on George Pickens' TD as CeeDee Lamb is questionable to return
The Cowboys are without wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is questionable to return with a quad injury. They still have George Pickens, though. His 17-yard touchdown reception has drawn the Cowboys to within one score of the Bucs. Dallas went for 2 points and Dak Prescott's pass was incomplete, leaving the Cowboys trailing 24-16 with 5:26 left. The Cowboys got a break when Todd Bowles decided to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the Dallas 1 with 8:36 remaining. Sean Tucker was stopped for no gain by Jaishawn Barham, giving the Cowboys hope. They then drove 99 yards in 10 plays.
Lions-Panthers slips under 20 million viewers on Sunday night
The Lions and Panthers faced off on Sunday night, but the game didn’t attract the viewers you might expect. Averaging 19.5 million on NBC, it fell short of the 20 million mark that had become common for the network's earlier games this season. This drop in viewership signals a shift for the Lions, who had gained traction as a national team last year but now seem to be slipping back into the pack.
Competing with an MLB playoff game between the Braves and Dodgers didn’t help. That matchup pulled in over 3 million viewers, diverting attention away from football. It’s clear that while the Lions had their moment, the excitement around them has dimmed a bit. The Panthers, still seeking a stronger national presence, didn’t help the numbers either.
Bucky Irving has 122 rushing yards, and his second touchdown of the night has given the Buccaneers a 21-10 lead. The winless Bucs have dominated the second half with scoring drives of 86 and 75 yards on only five plays. Jalon Daniels hit a wide-open Tyler Johnson for 64 yards for the big play on the second drive of the half. Daniels is 13-of-17 for 155 yards and a touchdown. The Bucs have 315 yards to the Cowboys' 171.
