Why has Scheffler been world No 1 so long and who could replace him?
Scottie Scheffler has held the world No. 1 spot in men's golf for an impressive 178 consecutive weeks, a streak that began in May 2023. His dominance is marked by four separate spells at the top and a significant lead over Rory McIlroy, who sits in second place. Scheffler's consistency shines through with six worldwide titles in 2025, including two majors, and three victories already in 2026. Experts credit his success to his exceptional iron play, distance control, and a deep understanding of his game.
While Scheffler is on track to challenge some of Tiger Woods' records, the competition is fierce. Players like McIlroy and rising stars such as Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young are in the mix. Fitzpatrick recently climbed to No. 3 after multiple wins this year. The landscape of golf is changing, and while Scheffler seems untouchable now, the potential for new challengers is always there. The question remains: who will eventually take his place? It could be one of the talented newcomers or even McIlroy if he finds his rhythm again. The future of the rankings is wide open, and it’s going to be exciting to watch how it unfolds.
NFL reportedly considering flexing out of Eagles-Commanders SNF
The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a disappointing start to the NFL season. The NFC champions of two of the past four seasons and just two years removed from a Super Bowl win, the Eagles are now losers of three straight games and have a losing record for the first time under head coach Nick Sirianni. Bluntly, the vibes in Philadelphia are pretty awful. It appears the NFL has taken notice of the Eagles’ free fall, as the league is reportedly considering flexing out of Week 8’s scheduled Sunday Night Football showdown between the Eagles and the Washington Commanders.
Joe Brady wishes he'd taken two knees before Monday night's game-winning field goal
Joe Brady, the Bills' coach, reflected on his decision-making during Monday night's game. He expressed some regret over opting for a 45-yard field goal on second down in overtime, instead of taking two knees to center the ball. Brady explained that he was concerned about putting quarterback Josh Allen at risk with QB sneaks. He felt confident in kicker Tyler Bass, but now sees that taking two knees could have limited the Rams' time to respond if the kick missed.
Brady acknowledged that the difference between a 45-yard and a 47-yard field goal isn’t huge, but the time management aspect is crucial. If the kick had missed from 47 yards, the Rams would have had less than 40 seconds to mount a comeback. A miss from 45 would have given them significantly more time. It’s a classic case of how quickly decisions need to be made in high-pressure situations, and Brady’s insight shows the complexity of those moments.

Maybe not to press it, but to look at it – to acknowledge that it’s within reach. A listless, shorthanded US women’s national team were struggling against Spain, down 2-0, and facing the ignominy of two straight decisive losses at home after Saturday’s 3-0 drubbing in Washington DC. Then two players who had just returned to the team after long absences turned the tide.
NFL has been "monitoring developments" in Tyreek Hill case
On Tuesday, a jury entered a mixed verdict in the civil lawsuit filed against free-agent receiver Tyreek Hill by his former wife, Keeta Vaccaro. The verdict comes at a time when the NFL is investigating Hill for the allegations Vaccaro has made. "We have been monitoring developments in the matter which remains under review of the personal conduct policy," an NFL spokesperson told PFT on Tuesday night, after the verdict was returned. The civil verdict is not binding on the league, as to either the counts on which he lost or the counts on which he won.
