Coinbase and HTX Among Six Crypto Platforms Facing Restrictions in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is moving to restrict access to six unlicensed crypto platforms after a court-backed action by the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA). On September 15, the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) Court granted AFSA’s claims against the operators of BingX, Bitcoin.com, Huobi Global (HTX), BitMart, Coinbase and WEEX. The order bars these platforms from providing, offering, or advertising digital asset services within the AIFC without the required license. It also covers the distribution of mobile apps used to offer these services.
CME CEO Says Crypto Perps Are Swaps While Suing CFTC Over Their Approval
CME Group CEO Terry Duffy says crypto perpetual futures, known as perps, are really swaps, a label that would bring them under stricter post-2008 rules. Duffy’s exchange is already suing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to win that classification, even though the regulator says CME could list the same contracts itself. Why Does Duffy Say Perps Are Swaps? The CFTC has already taken the opposite view, approving a Bitcoin (BTC) perp from Kalshi, a prediction market platform, as a futures contract on May 29.
Circle CEO Shrugs Off Bitcoin's Slump and Pitches Digital Dollars for the AI Era
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire waved off questions about Bitcoin (BTC) underperforming this year in a CNBC interview, saying he is focused on non-speculative digital dollars built for a future where AI software moves the money. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a federal banking regulator, is finalizing rules for the GENIUS Act, the 2025 law governing dollar-pegged stablecoins. Allaire says that cements his sector’s role, while noting other crypto areas may face questions.
OCC waiver rule puts active stablecoin issuers on notice
So, here’s the deal: existing US stablecoin issuers are facing a bit of a deadline. The OCC has made it clear that if they want to keep issuing coins after January 18, 2027, they’ll need a discretionary waiver. Just filing for approval isn’t going to cut it anymore. This puts a spotlight on how active these issuers are in navigating regulatory waters.
It’s a significant signal for the market, especially with the increasing scrutiny on stablecoins. If you’re in that space, it might be time to reassess strategies and compliance measures. The landscape is shifting, and being proactive could make all the difference.
