Indonesian Corporate Bond Premia Hit Six-Year High on MSCI Angst
Corporate bond risk premia in Indonesia have surged to a six-year high, now standing out starkly against other Asian markets. This shift comes in the wake of MSCI’s warning about potentially removing Indonesia from its global equity indexes, which has rattled investor confidence. The concern is palpable, as the threat of exclusion from such a significant index can lead to reduced foreign investment and increased borrowing costs for local companies.
As bonds widen, it’s a reminder of how interconnected these markets are. Investors are weighing the implications of MSCI's move, and the ripple effects are being felt across the board. It’s a situation to keep an eye on, especially if you’re following the broader trends in emerging markets.

Judge: Federal government lawyers ‘barely defend’ giving Elon Musk’s DOGE illegal access to government data
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) breached federal law by sharing sensitive government data with the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to a federal judge. In a 39-page ruling released on Tuesday, Judge Denise Cote said OPM violated the Privacy Act of 1974, a post-Watergate law which prohibits the disclosure of certain records and outlines requirements for safeguarding others, and subsequently disobeyed its own cybersecurity practices.
Earnings season started this week, with some senior miners reporting big numbers. Here’s a gold miner that can probably serve as a template for its peers. To sum up: Slightly lower year-over-year production, slightly higher costs, and — thanks to higher metal prices — another big free cash flow number. More details:
The Inflation Number Household Feels May Not Be the Number the RBI Watches
Wholesale Price Index inflation in India hit 11.39% in September, while consumer inflation remained at 5.54%. This 5.85 percentage point gap highlights a disconnect between rising production costs and what consumers are paying. The Wholesale Price Index measures prices at the wholesale level, focusing on raw materials and manufactured goods, while the Consumer Price Index reflects what households actually spend on a broader range of goods and services.
The increase in wholesale inflation, driven by significant jumps in fuel and power prices, suggests that pressures are building in the supply chain. As costs rise for essential inputs like energy and metals, businesses may struggle to pass those costs onto consumers immediately. This situation could lead to a delayed reaction in consumer prices, which is crucial to watch as it indicates underlying economic pressures that might not yet be visible at the retail level.
