Are Genius Act yield restrictions irrelevant?
The Controller of the Currency (OCC) finalized the Genius Act regulation last week. The big news was a less rigid yield restriction. Instead of a blanket ban, the COC will review rewards models on a case-by-case basis. This was widely seen to benefit the Circle/Coinbase partnership, although any approvals likely release a flood of litigation. Those of you who read my Sunday post noted an offhand comment on this topic.
On October 20, 2017, founder and CEO Forrest Li stood on the NYSE podium, waiting to ring the bell for Sea’s IPO. Last week, exactly 9 years later, he sent his employees a memo that raised eyebrows in investing circles. The memo announced two key changes: Sea will sell its in-house cloud to other companies, and Monee, its fintech arm, could one day go public on its own. The stock dropped 9.1% that day to $80.43, and it has since fallen to $74.73 right now. Since that jump on August 11, after the earnings, the stock has dropped 35.5%.
Ambani’s Jio Surges in Debut After India-Record IPO
Jio Platforms Ltd. opened strong, jumping 10% on its first day of trading after raising $3.1 billion in India's largest IPO to date. This move is particularly noteworthy given the recent struggles of other large IPOs in the country. Mukesh Ambani, the billionaire behind Jio, has managed to capture significant investor interest, demonstrating confidence in the telecom sector's growth potential.
The excitement around Jio’s debut reflects a broader optimism in the market, even amidst some skepticism about mega IPOs in India. Investors seem to be betting on Jio's ability to innovate and expand its services in a competitive landscape.
