Report: NFL flexes referee Alex Moore's crew out of prime time
The NFL, for reasons still neither known nor apparent, opted not to flex the game between the 2-5 Eagles and 1-4-1 Commanders out of prime time, despite multiple other compelling Sunday afternoon games. The league did, however, flex the officiating crew out of the Sunday night game. Via Football Zebras, Alex Moore's crew has been moved from Eagles-Commanders to Patriots-Dolphins. Shawn Hochuli's crew will work the Sunday night game.
Aaron Rodgers’ idea to play every NFL international game in one week deemed ‘nonsensical concept’
Aaron Rodgers recently suggested that the NFL should schedule all its international games in one week, but it seems that idea isn’t getting much traction. After the Steelers’ win in Paris, he expressed disappointment that financial concerns have overshadowed the potential excitement of an international week. Rodgers envisioned a scenario with 16 games played in different locations, paired with an extra bye week. He believes this could enhance the game’s global reach.
However, NFL executives and team owners have dismissed his proposal as impractical. Sources indicated that the league never seriously discussed such a plan, and the current collective bargaining agreement restricts the scheduling of international games. Instead, the NFL is looking to expand its international offerings to a maximum of ten games. So, while Rodgers dreams of a packed international week, the league seems set on a more cautious approach.
Cowboys-Eagles' audience blows out World Series Game 3
There once was a time when the mere thought of competing with the World Series made the NFL hide under the bed. Nowadays, regular-season football is the monster lurking under the World Series' futon. When ESPN announced the numbers for the Week 7 Cowboys-Eagles game (18.8 million), Fox had yet to disclose the viewership for Game 3 of the World Series between (Googles it) Tampa Bay and Milwaukee. And for good reason. Via Manny Soloway of Awful Announcing, the baseball game averaged 8.33 million viewers.
Les Kiss backs Beale to ‘compete’ for Wallabies’ World Cup spot: ‘He’s in there to perform’
Les Kiss is backing veteran playmaker Kurtley Beale to compete for a spot on the Wallabies' Rugby World Cup squad. Beale, now 37, has been recalled for the upcoming spring tour in the UK, which includes matches against England, Scotland, and Wales. Kiss believes Beale adds valuable depth to the team.
In addition to Beale's return, Tom Hooper has overcome his injury and is available for the Nations Championship. The finals are set for November 21-23. With these developments, the Wallabies are gearing up for a crucial period, and Kiss is confident in his players' abilities to perform on the big stage.
Thursday Night Football: Packers hold on for 27-19 win over Panthers
The Milwaukee Brewers celebrated their World Series with a trip to Lambeau Field. The Packers joined in the celebration with a 27-19 victory over the Panthers. It was closer than it should have been. Trey Smack missed an extra point; the Packers turned it over three times, including a fumbled kickoff; and Green Bay let Carolina climb back into it after leading 27-10 midway through the third quarter. It's the same problems the Packers have faced over the past two seasons — poor special teams play and choking big leads. The Panthers outgained the Packers 109 to 32 in the fourth quarter.
The Packers were in control, leading 27-10 midway through the third quarter. But the Panthers made a strong push, narrowing the gap to 27-19 with just over five minutes left in the game. Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a 50-yard field goal, bringing some momentum to Carolina.
Then, on a crucial fourth-and-3, Bryce Young connected with Jalen Coker for a 26-yard touchdown, capping off a solid 12-play, 70-yard drive. They converted two key third downs during that series, showing real determination. However, the Panthers couldn't complete the comeback, as their two-point conversion attempt fell short after Young's pass was deflected.
Young finished the game with 196 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, showing flashes of promise despite the loss. The Panthers kept it competitive, but the Packers held on for the win.
Aaron Donald isn't bothered by not having a sack since he returned to the Rams
Aaron Donald isn’t worried about his lack of sacks since returning to the Rams after a two-year retirement. In five games, he hasn’t recorded one, but he’s focused on helping the team win rather than chasing individual stats. Donald emphasized that winning is what excites him, not personal accolades. The Rams have struggled this season, winning only three of their seven games, and Donald hasn’t yet played alongside Myles Garrett, the player who helped spark his return.
In Week 7 against the Raiders, Donald saw his highest snap count of the season, participating in 74 percent of defensive plays. More time on the field could lead to those elusive stats he desires, but for now, his priority remains the team’s success. The Rams face the winless Chargers this Sunday, and a victory is crucial to avoid falling further behind in the standings.
Netflix will not stream Jake Paul’s return to boxing, per report
While Netflix has capitalized on two of the last three Jake Paul fights, the streamer will not broadcast his return to the ring in December. According to a report by Erich Richter in the New York Post, Paul’s next fight, scheduled for Christmas Eve in Dubai, will not stream on Netflix, the platform that aired Paul’s bouts against Mike Tyson and Anthony Joshua. Instead, Richter reports “the most likely scenario” is that the Paul fight will stream live on DAZN via pay-per-view. Paul has not fought in about a year after breaking his jaw during the Joshua fight last December.
Troy Aikman says it was "unfair" for him to back Jerry Jones "into a corner"
Troy Aikman recently expressed some regret about his comments regarding a potential role with the Cowboys. During an appearance on a Dallas radio show, he acknowledged that he might have put Jerry Jones in a tough spot by discussing the idea of returning to the team. Aikman felt it was unfair for Jones to have to answer questions about him, especially since he hadn’t initiated the discussion.
He mentioned a brief conversation with Jones during a game in Philadelphia, where they touched on the topic. Aikman clarified that he didn’t mean to back Jones into a corner and that they both understood the situation. Despite the compliments exchanged, Aikman emphasized that there are no active discussions about him joining the Cowboys at this time.
Aikman also shared his uncertainty about his broadcasting future with ESPN, estimating his chances of returning next year at about 50-50. It seems he’s grappling with the idea of his long broadcasting career possibly coming to an end. His recent comments have inadvertently created a scenario where Jones will face questions about Aikman’s potential involvement with the team, something that happened shortly after Aikman spoke out.
While Aikman’s future remains unclear, there’s still a sense that he’s trying to lay the groundwork for a possible collaboration with Jones, especially as the Cowboys aim to return to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1995.
Christian Watson cleared, on his way back to Lambeau from hospital
He was injured during a 53-yard reception when he landed awkwardly with Panthers cornerback Will Lee falling on him. Initially, there were concerns about his sternoclavicular joint, and the Packers listed him as questionable to return with a chest injury.
Before his exit, Watson had a solid game, catching six passes for 100 yards, bringing his season total to a career-high 695 receiving yards. Meanwhile, the Panthers ruled out Will Lee due to a hamstring injury sustained on the same play. The Packers also confirmed that tight end Josh Whyle is out with a concussion. In the game, running back Josh Jacobs scored a touchdown from Jordan Love, extending the lead to 27-10 in the third quarter.
