The Vikings could be ready to make a trade for a quarterback, if they lose Monday night
The Vikings might be gearing up for a quarterback trade, depending on the outcome of Monday night’s game against the Bills. Kyler Murray is dealing with a hamstring injury, and if Carson Wentz can pull off a win, he could secure his spot for the next few challenging games. But if Wentz falters, the Vikings have a tight window to make a move.
They’re eyeing potential trades, with Colts quarterback Daniel Jones as a leading candidate. Jones might be eager to return to Minnesota after a brief stint there in 2024, especially since the Colts are in a tough spot after trading key players.
Another option is Kirk Cousins, but that’s trickier. The Raiders are still in contention, and moving Cousins could disrupt their momentum. Plus, acquiring him would likely cost more than trading for Jones, who the Colts might be looking to offload to clear their roster for the future.
So, it all hinges on Monday night. A Vikings win probably means no changes, but a loss could spark some significant moves come Tuesday.
UFC Vegas 124 delivered an exciting night of fights at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. In the main event, Waldo Cortes-Acosta faced Johnny Walker in a heavyweight clash. Cortes-Acosta, ranked No. 8, was looking to bounce back after two consecutive losses, while Walker aimed to build on his recent knockout victory.
The co-main event featured a strawweight showdown between Tatiana Suarez and Virna Jandiroba, both vying for a spot at the top of the title picture. The main card also included matchups like Davey Grant against Elijah Smith and Billy Elekana versus Lucas Fernando, showcasing a mix of talent across different weight classes.
The preliminary card was packed with action too, featuring fighters like Keiichiro Nakamura and Ollie Schmid, as well as Karine Silva taking on Gabriella Fernandes. Overall, UFC Vegas 124 had a little something for every fight fan, with plenty of competitive bouts to keep us on the edge of our seats.
This week’s midterm elections are set to shake things up in Congress, and that could spell trouble for the Protect College Sports Act. The bill has already made it through the Senate but has stalled in the House, which hasn’t taken any action since mid-September. With just a six-week lame-duck session left, it’s unclear if House members will push their own version of the bill before they leave.
Senator Ted Cruz, a key supporter, warns that if they don’t act now, the chances of passing a similar bill in the future are slim. He emphasizes that this is a crucial moment for House Republicans to secure a win for President Trump and student athletes. However, many outgoing members might hesitate to back a bill tied to Trump, especially if they feel their re-election losses were influenced by him.
The fear is that the House might try to amend the bill, which could lead to a lengthy reconciliation process. The Senate Commerce Committee has made it clear that any amendments could doom the bill. With the clock ticking, it’s hard to see how this will all play out.
Rams listed Matthew Stafford with elbow injury because reporters asked about ice on it
After reporters noticed Matthew Stafford with ice on his throwing arm following the Rams' win over the Chargers, coach Sean McVay confirmed an elbow injury on Wednesday. McVay explained that the injury report was prompted by the media's inquiries, suggesting it’s more about semantics than a serious issue. He emphasized that Stafford has been a full participant in practice, showing no signs of diminished performance. The situation draws parallels to the Patriots' past practice of listing Tom Brady with injuries after media questions. Ultimately, it raises questions about the transparency of injury reports and whether Stafford's elbow issue is genuine or just a response to reporters.
ESPN added prediction markets to on-air talent guidelines around insider betting
Prediction markets spend a lot of time and money trying to explain why they’re not gambling. Few people and entities see it as anything other than gambling, and that appears to include ESPN. Ryan Glasspiegel at Front Office Sports reported Friday that the Worldwide Leader’s talent department circulated a memo several days before the midterm elections to all on-air talent with general guidelines on social media posting, political commentary, and sports betting.
Saints to have "chip on our shoulder" after Browns' "chirping"
The Saints, like all teams, pay attention to the things said by their upcoming opponents. Earlier this week, Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders seemed to make some less-than-flattering comments about the New Orleans defense. The New Orleans defense heard it, loud and clear. "We're gonna come in with a chip on our shoulder, for sure," Saints defensive end Carl Granderson said Friday. "You know, they been chirping a little bit. We heard what the quarterback . . . said. So, you know, we're [going to] come in hot and ready to play. . . . It's gonna be a good game, for sure.
Kyle Shanahan ‘[couldn’t] care less’ about Brandon Aiyuk’s meeting with 49ers
Brandon Aiyuk met with the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, hoping to resolve his future with the team. He arrived via helicopter with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and expressed that he feels healthy and ready to return to the NFL after a long recovery from his knee injury. Aiyuk hasn't played in over two years and has been on the reserve/left squad list since December, which complicates his situation.
However, head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear he’s not invested in Aiyuk’s meeting. He stated he “couldn’t care less” about the situation, emphasizing that it has no bearing on the team’s current focus. Shanahan indicated that Aiyuk’s time with the 49ers is essentially over, and the team is looking to move on. The tension between Aiyuk and the franchise has been ongoing, and it seems both sides are eager to close this chapter.
Drew Rosenhaus after Brandon Aiyuk's meeting with 49ers: "To be continued"
Brandon Aiyuk's situation with the 49ers is still unresolved as the NFL delays his reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list. Aiyuk's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, met with him and the 49ers on Friday, but they left without a resolution. Rosenhaus told reporters, “To be continued,” indicating that more discussions are needed.
The crux of the matter is that Aiyuk may owe the 49ers around $13 million. The team seems to be holding out for that payment before allowing him back into the league. Now, the big question is whether Aiyuk will negotiate with the 49ers to facilitate his return to the NFL, possibly with another team. It’s a tricky situation, and we’ll have to wait to see how it unfolds.
NFC North has 17-3 record against non-NFC North teams
The NFC North is the best division in the NFL. As evidenced by how the teams of the NFC North have performed against the rest of the league. The Vikings, Bears, Lions, and Packers have a combined record of 17-3 against non-NFC North teams. Via NBC Sports research, the ensuing 85 percent success rate is the highest by any division in the NFL since the 1970 merger. In theory, all four teams of the NFC North could make the playoffs. To do that, however, each would have to finish higher in the wild-card pecking order than the Rams and the Seahawks (assuming the 49ers win the NFC West).
Charles Barkley always carries cash and doesn’t trust Uber
Over his years as an analyst on Inside the NBA, basketball fans have learned quite a lot about Charles Barkley. Earlier this week, he shared his feelings about Trick-or-Treaters, saying he was happy to hand out candy but not interested in signing autographs all night. “I love being home to give the kids candy. I love that,” Barkley said. “But now they’re bringing cards. And you can’t be mean to kids. I wanted to punch them in the face, but I couldn’t do it. Come on, man. Quit bringing damn cards to my house.
