Dear Jessica, Melvin, Andy, Henry and Frank,
Every morning the sun comes over the hills and through my windows and you come over the hills with it. I have cried with you. I have laughed with you. I have made a playlist for you. When people ask what I’m watching, I tell them I watch KTLA from six in the morning until the afternoon.
Subscribe now
Jessica. I’m obsessed with you and everyone should be. You are the main anchor on the biggest morning show in Los Angeles, you have very young children, you cook, you carry Empress energy, and when your Spotify Wrapped was shared I thought, wow, what a winner. If Elon Musk is really poised to pivot Tesla into building those humanoid robots I hope he’s basing blueprints off Jessica Holmes.
So…
I have never been worried about you. Through atmospheric rivers, dismissals, deaths. You’ve been great, incredible, even.
Then this morning.
You cut to break on Taylor Swift. “Mean.”
Wait? I stopped thinking about which raincoat I was going to wear for this entire El Niño season. What?
Usually, I mean, the playlist speaks for herself. This “Mean” select is… well not normal.
I waited. I waited. I needed the next bumper.
It arrived. Like cutting open a jammy soft boiled egg, you cut to the next break on the Goo Goo Dolls. “Name.”
Excuse me?
“And I won’t tell no one your name
And I won’t tell ‘em your name.”
I waited for the third like a verdict.
You cut to break on Kacey Musgraves.
“High Horse.”
Now, I may see patterns, I may be psychic.. same/same.. but
Somebody in your building, specifically the person listing the music you play, got hurt.
I’m concerned.
I’m also intrigued.
Walk down the hall.
Knock. “Mean, Name, High Horse. You good?” Watch the face.
WATCH THE FACE.
I’ll update the playlist every morning until my life ends.
Kelly
