The Impossible Will Take A Little While.
That’s the title of activist and author Paul Loeb’s best-selling book that was originally published during the heyday of the War on Terror, when it felt that America had lost its collective mind. Millions of us marched in the streets, protested the war, warned of its devastating consequences, but we were ignored by the Bush Administration and powerful institutions that profited off of chaos.
Everything seemed bleak and hopeless.
Well, the subtitle of the book is A Citizen's Guide to Hope in a Time of Fear
To find a way forward, Paul collected interviews, insights, and essays from activists and leaders who endured and overcame what seemed like insurmountable challenges, such as Apartheid in South Africa. Now, two decades later, the story is even more desperate with rising income inequality, climate change, and the return of fascism.
Paul updated his book with new stories, which include how South Korean citizens stopped the 2024 coup, Russian resistance to Putin, and how Minnesota ICE resistors learned from Norwegians who defied the Nazis during WW2.
He joins The Left Hook to share some of these insights and tales, while also reminding people of the long fight against fascism, which sadly doesn’t end with a haymaker, but persists with everyone doing their part to unleash a cut against the machine.
