In a story right out of a spy thriller, conservative reform presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro and his wife and two daughters fled Brazil and have reportedly landed safely in Miami.
Just hours after the socialist president pulled an unprecedented maneuver of leaving polls in areas that support him open for an extra two hours to secure “victory,” the government ordered Bolsonaro to hand over his passports in anticipation of potential arrest. He vowed to stay and fight to overturn what appeared to be a blatantly stolen election, but then he disappeared. There are reports that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arranged his secret escape from political prosecution (Bolsonaro’s father, the former president, is still under house arrest.)
The Bolsonaro family** reportedly entered Argentina**, flew to Ecuador on a private plane, and are now in Miami, where they will seek political asylum as refugees.
We would hope that naive (aka “deluded”) young Americans, as well as media morons who have been celebrating Brazil’s “repudiation” of “rightwing” politics and who also believe socialist lies about “protecting our democracy,” will look at this story and get a wake-up call as to how socialism really works. There’s a reason why socialist nations have walls and armies to keep people from leaving, not from coming in.
Unfortunately, the US is already well along the path followed by Brazil, and by European nations, of putting socialists into power who cement that power by jailing their political opponents. We already have Democrats (some of them actual socialists claiming to be Democrats; some of them actual Democrats just acting like socialists) calling for endless investigations, trials, bankruptcy and imprisonment for Trump, his family, his allies like Elon Musk, his Cabinet members and even people who just worked with him or voted for him. They’re not even trying to mask it anymore. They don’t even name the alleged crimes because there aren’t any; they’re just following the old Soviet tactic of naming the enemy, then coming up with a crime to charge them with.
The message is clear: Vote for Democrats and you’re voting to turn America into Brazil. Instapundit blog master and legal professor Glenn Reynolds makes the case eloquently, but chillingly, that we are in late-stage democracy, where so many guardrails have been torn down that we’re in a suicidal spiral.
We also agree with his observation that Bolsonaro and white South African farmers will likely be the only refugees that Democrats don’t want to let into America.
