Sources close to Meghan spent the weekend telling the Telegraph that the Duchess had been “used” by Netflix: her name floated as a possible star of the third series of The Gentlemen to drum up interest in the second, then dropped once the viewing figures were in. One of them called it “the oldest marketing trick in the book.”
Permit me a hollow laugh, and a moment to concur with those around the production who take a different view, with one telling * The Times* that this is not a show in need of “stunt casting.”
On the last Friday in August when the story broke, with The Hollywood Reporter saying Meghan was in advanced discussions and Deadline being rather more careful (the conversations were hypothetical, no role had been identified, the show had not even been renewed), sources close to Harry were, well, very much not declining to knock it down. Here, at last, was a reason for the Duchess to swap Montecito for the mud of hated Britannia!
