My water intake right now is coffee, and then, later, coffee, and then at 4 p.m. a single glass of water that I drink standing up like it’s a dare, and my skin looks incredible. I want to be clear that I did not earn this. I went into the bathroom with the bad mirror, the one with the overhead bulb that some man chose specifically so that no woman would ever feel joy in that room again, and I leaned in expecting the usual news, and the news was good, and I didn’t trust it, so I leaned in closer, which is when the bad mirror usually wins, and it didn’t.
I’ve spent car money on this face. A Honda, at least. I’ve let a woman named Inga peel it off me while she explained that numbing cream is for cowards. And the thing that finally did it, the thing that beat the Honda and Inga and every jar with a French word on it, is twenty five dollars.
And it’s a serum.
And it works.
