In June, Rupert and former NASA astronaut Ron Garan met on Substack Live to explore the Overview Effect. That is the shift in perception many astronauts describe on seeing the Earth whole from space: no visible borders, an atmosphere as thin as a veil, and an unmistakable sense that it is all one.
This Thursday, they continue the conversation in person, live from Rupert’s retreat in Garrison, New York.
Ron spent 178 days in space and circled the Earth 2,842 times. From there, he says, our oneness is obvious. Down here, it is easily overlooked. This conversation asks why. Is the view from space a glimpse of something that was always true? Do you need to leave the Earth to see it? And what changes in a life once you have?
The conversation will be guided by Guy Reid, whose short film Overview, in which Ron appears, introduced millions of viewers to the experience.
Join us live, here on Substack, on Thursday at 7pm BST / 2pm EDT / 11am PDT.
