Harvey Weinstein got fifteen more years yesterday. He’s seventy-four and already serving time, so this is a number on top of a number. It’s like fining a dead guy.
I started #NotOkay in October 2016, a year before Alyssa Milano's tweet sent #MeToo viral. Everyone understood how it worked because they'd already watched it work on my Twitter account. The Access Hollywood Trump tape came out on a Friday, I tweeted about the old man on the bus who grabbed me when I was twelve, and I asked women to tweet their assaults. I wanted everyone to see ACTUAL victims of assaults. I wanted people to see this wasn’t “locker room talk”… By Saturday it was 9.7 million.
All of that to say: I have been at this since before the beginning. Now a judge said a number, I waited to feel something, and it didn’t come. I’m numb.
What came instead was a meeting I was in a while back.
I wrote about it already, here.
I said the money dried up because the men writing the checks couldn’t get access anymore. The room went quiet… everyone is in pause mode because my math is new and mathing for them.
So Harvey got fifteen years. And I’m sitting here wondering who got the money.
The guy who used to buy a producer credit so he could stand near an actress, invite her to talk at the hotel lounge still has the check. He’s fine. He’s in Aspen. He’s financing an app.
