Regardless of who wins in the upcoming Israel election, the country’s new leader will remain committed to gaining as much Palestinian land as possible.
The Greater Israel Project is a bipartisan goal seeking to expand Israel’s territory by removing as many Palestinians as possible from the West Bank and Gaza. Israel also wants Southern Lebanon and parts of Syria and has already expelled over 1 million Lebanese people during its ongoing, disastrous War with Iran.
Tragically, the land has become a golden calf for Israel and its defenders, elevated above God, religion, democracy, and human rights. In religious traditions, this was a form of idolatry that led to shame, humiliation, and punishment. Currently, Palestinian people are the ones bearing the brunt of this increasingly deranged hubris and colonial mindset.
However, the world is changing rapidly as a new generation refuses to go along with the status quo. Young people are siding with Macklemore and pro-Palestinian activists over Zionist billionaires and AIPAC. A majority of voters believe Israel is committing a genocide and want a massive reset with a country that has elevated the worst extremists to power.
The question remains: what will it take for our political leaders to meet the people and the moment? I invited author, commentator, and editor Peter Beinart to answer this question and share his analysis.
