I’m joining The Intellectualist at his Lincoln Square show History of the Present. Today. 3pm eastern. LIVE.
In yesterday’s newsletter, we introduced the concept of Vought the Vote. Because we voted for creative, ruthless, forceful change, not the legislative version of Merrick Garland.
Today, you can sign two Change.org petitions:
GO HERE to demand that Democrats elect someone other than Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House. As of this writing, it is approaching 850K signatures.
GO HERE to demand that Democrats elect someone other than Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader.
Yesterday, we demanded that Democrats take the following actions on Day 1:
Use the Capitol Police and its Office of the Inspector General to force the regime to comply with Congressional demands.
We demand accountability, not retribution. Investigate and punish regime actors and enablers who have broken our rule of law, including impeaching and removing most Executive Department heads and the six corrupt Roberts Court justices.
Release the un-redacted Epstein Files, arrest every person implicated, and give the victims justice.
Repeal the Big Ugly Bill and give immediate relief to Americans.
Pass legislation that defines separation of church and state as NO RELIGION BELONGS IN GOVERNMENT.
Today, let’s be even more bold.
Repeal the USA Patriot Act of 2001, which would negate NSPM-7.
The USA Patriot Act of 2001 was an egregious violation of our Constitution. It has enabled multiple administrations to surveil, investigate, harass, and punish people who exercise their rights of free speech and expression, primarily to deter foreign actors who engage in domestic terror. Georgetown University Law’s Center on National Security held an informative discussion of the USA Patriot Act for its 20th anniversary HERE.
NSPM-7 shifted the USA Patriot Act’s focus from foreign actors to domestic, left-leaning individuals and groups. It gives this regime the ability to investigate, surveil, harass, and arrest anyone with whom it disagrees and jail them as domestic terrorists.
Because NSPM-7 is a Presidential Memorandum, repealing the USA Patriot Act of 2001’s enumerated powers would strip NSPM-7 of its teeth. It would cut off the Department of Homeland Security’s ability to surveil, kidnap, and disappear human beings and would force them to follow due process.
Require every DOGE actor to turn over a complete accounting of all information that was stolen from the American people.
It is unconscionable that Americans presently have no idea what information DOGE has stolen, who they have given it to, or how it is being used, combined, altered, compiled, and weaponized. From banking details to healthcare records, tax histories to employment data, this government has perpetrated a nation-state decapitation on its own people.
We deserve to know what happened to this data. Those who stole it should be prosecuted and jailed. And Democrats must make us whole, both with a concrete, actionable plan to re-secure our private information and with compensation for the harms - both present and future - this breach of security could cause.
It is also imperative for Democrats to arrive on Day 1 with legislation that introduces guardrails such that this kind of theft can never happen again.
End all military interventions, including in the Middle East and Latin America, and restore support for Ukraine and NATO.
We also demand a complete accounting of lives damaged and lost in these illegal conflicts, as well as an honest, transparent audit of weapons stockpiles and reserves.
Related - Congress must freeze the Pentagon’s ability to fire military personnel. The political purge of highly decorated officers and soldiers must end.
Abolish the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and the Border Patrol.
Fire every individual in those departments effective immediately and form a separate commission to investigate and charge those who participated in the illegal kidnapping, disappearing, sexual assault, and abuse of human beings under cover of this system. People like Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, Kristi Noem, and Markwayne Mullin should be jailed for the rest of their lives for the atrocities they have perpetrated upon human beings.
As part of this reckoning, Democrats must admit that they have been part of the immigration problem and arrive on Day 1 with fundamental structural reforms that will allow for reasonable, ethical, humane immigration.
Pass a moratorium on data centers and a Big Tech regulation bill on Day 1.
The Tech Bros have made it crystal clear: They are enemies of democracy. Pull their government contracts. Investigate their algorithms. Punish them for their addictive, abusive practices. End their parasitical ability to steal our data, brainwash our populations, and profit from us as products.
However it has to happen, end Citizens United.
This election was the most expensive on record. Almost $12 billion was spent. Imagine what that money could have done to provide actual relief to the American people.
We must stop allowing a few rich families to buy our government and destroy our planet.
Pass a new Voting Rights Act on Day 1.
Pass the Equal Rights Amendment on Day 1.
Pass a law guaranteeing the right to bodily autonomy, reproductive healthcare, and gender-affirming care on Day 1.
Restore protections for minorities and vulnerable populations and end this regime’s ridiculous assertion that white people are the true victims of racism on Day 1.
Pass Medicare for All on Day 1. DAY 1.
I mean it. You have versions of this legislation ready. You can pass it on Day 1.
What would you add to Democrats’ Day 1 agenda? Leave your ideas in a comment today.
