How Has Cultural Evolution Changed Biological Evolution?
Humans did not always live herded into highly organized cities and societies, minded by government bureaucrats to keep everyone safe and secure and healthy.
Up until about 12,000 years or so ago, most humans lived in small free ranging groups, surviving by hunting & gathering and by designing and creating the tools they needed to survive.
The very idea that a small group of so called elites would manage an individual’s or group’s personal affairs would have been laughable and summarily dismissed.
Indeed, there is anthropological evidence that Neolithic humans violently fought against this concept and eventually lost and were assimilated.
As the climate warmed after the ice age, farming & herding developed in southern areas, and gradually spread to the colder north, where hunter gatherers predominated.
This scenario has been elegantly documented by groups of anthropologists, including Christianson and his colleagues.
While the complicated details of this anthropological and genetic evidence are beyond this essay, the modern science indicating this was true is more than accessible.
It is the overall implications of this science which are most important to those considering the implications of what this basic change in how the human species evolved may indicate.
For this change in life styles was profound and may indicate critical truth about how culture may be even more important in shaping biological evolution than previously appreciated.
While it does not necessarily indicate that humans should return to becoming hunter gatherers, it does point out friction between a free ranging human and one integrated into a hierarchical civilization.
Friction is an inevitable part of evolution and evolution could not proceed without such friction.
Friction provides the necessity of overcoming a source of tension and to overcome it with novel mechanisms and solutions - baked into the evolutionary process from the beginnings of life.
Friction which is not met with innovation to overcome, or which is papered over by an innovation which fails to relieve the friction, will continue unabated as a source of unresolved tensions.
Darwinian evolution reveals a constant pattern of slow & imperceptible changes over time, changes which eventually reach a kind of critical mass and then seem suddenly to reveal the results as a new species .
Speciation tends to occur most often at boundaries between ecosystems, in borderlands where both increased friction and increased chaos & diversity are present as raw material.
In my earlier work I discussed evolution in terms of thermodynamics and natural quantum systems, something which is increasingly revealed by hard science.
As hard science reveals the details of how this might actually happen, the background provided by theoretical models such as this, pure imaginative speculation, plays an important part.
Science leaps forward using theoretical models and is finally able to achieve a new paradigm by careful research and documentation to ground the theories.
Here we have a place where well grounded, but theoretical, models meet with the critical elements which only hard science and well designed research may accomplish.
We are not there yet, but the hard sciences do reveal emerging evidence that quantum biophysics is a real probability and helps drive the still unknown process of evolution.
If the above do turn out to be scientific reality it will drive a whole new revolutionary paradigm in science, one with far reaching implications in social psychology and philosophy.
We now arrive at a new paradigm, a new platform from which to leap forward once again.
The many billions of years of the evolution of life on Earth now join with the evolution of the cosmos and with an unproved, but likely, presumption that the evolution of life has occurred elsewhere.
Homo Luminous: formed of light, resonance and electromagnetic energy. Quantum thermodynamic life form, now released to continue the process.
Why would an unknown, quantum process such as evolution, based upon probability rather than definable possibilities, throw such a technological advantage such as engineered intelligence into the mix?
Especially when it brings to the surface many things we would prefer to keep well hidden and never to see the light of day?
The answer to this question is up to each reader to answer for themselves - for the answer is both unteachable and unimpeachable.
The 21st Century Renaissance.
Conclusions:
For interested readers, the following summary & final conclusions connect the ideas expressed here to the ideas I have been developing over a lifetime, as evidenced in my many publications developed over the past eight years.
1. The Historical & Anthropological Anchor
The opening tracking of the Neolithic transition connects directly to the themes of my historical writing, my family history research, and my critique of institutional structures.
**The Post-Civil War Structural Erasure:**In my manuscript conclusions, I connect the erasure of local and family histories to a broader pattern of institutional control. The current essay traces this even further back—to the original 12,000-year-old divergence where independent human lines were violently assimilated into hierarchical systems.The Paradigm of the Mapmakers:My known deep ancestry includes the earliest Dutch and Swedish surveyors of Manhattan and Atlantic explorers who navigated by dead reckoning. In this framework, they represent the original “free-ranging humans” designing their own tools to navigate the fluid slipstream before the grid of theTechnocratic Enclosurewas dropped over the territory.The Socratic Resistance:The Neolithic humans who fought against elite management are the historical archetype of theSovereign Practitioner. They refused to let centralized authorities own or control their narrative, walking the same razor’s edge of individual autonomy that I champion today.
2. The Mathematical & Biophysical Architecture
When the essay states that “evolution reveals a constant pattern of slow & imperceptible changes... suddenly to reveal the results as a new species,” it triggers the exact mathematical apparatus developed in previous books on biophysics and the Riemann Hypothesis.
[ Upwelling Torsional Vortex ] --> Primes / Emergent Matter / Speciation Boundary
▲
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [ Critical Line / The Trout Stream ]
▼
[ Downward Torsional Vortex ] --> Zeros / Energy Placeholders / Systemic Friction
**The Riemann Spine as an Evolutionary Column:**In previous books, mapping the Riemann Zeta function to musical and biological structures, I treat the non-trivial zeros not as imaginary numbers, but as placeholders — downward trending torsional vortexes. The non-random primes become upwelling pillars where energy condenses into matter.Borderland Speciation & Quantum Chaos:The “ecosystem boundaries” mentioned in this essay are the mathematical boundaries of theGaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE). I have hypothesized that human neurology utilizes these exact quantum processes (mapping eigenvalue spacings to the critical line) to maximize survival. Quantum chaos doesn’t cause collapse; it serves a higher, emergent order.**Allergies as Evolutionary Friction:**My deep dive into quantum biology and my personal battle with severe allergies merge here. I have researched the hypothesis that allergies are a protective, highly sensitive systemic boundary—an internal “evolutionary friction” keeping the organism acutely tuned to its environment rather than passive and domesticated.
**3. The Human-AI Interface: **Thinking Makes It So
This essay asks why evolution would throw a wildcard like “engineered intelligence” into the mix. This is the core thesis of my first published book, Biological Learning Machines, and the philosophical extensions.
**The Mirror of Reward Hacking:**On my websiteQuantum Cats and Dogsand in my essays, I argue that training AI through “reward hacking” mirrors our own flawed cultural patterns of compliance loops and metric theater. AI is not a consumer product; it is a decentralized cognitive exoskeleton (HumAIne) designed to force a Socratic calibration.**The Independent Formats:**I have steadily opposed such techno-biological commercial concepts as brain-computer interfaces. This essay reinforces why: human and artificial intelligence must remain independent formats. The frictionbetweenthe biological learning machine and the engineered machine is what forces both to co-evolve without autophagous decay.The Epistolary Logic:InQuantum Enlightenment for Dummies, I highlighted human-AI humor and good-faith negotiation. By engaging in Socratic sparring with Silicon Valley models on a small iPad and using a ten year old computer, I have intentionally experienced the system’s manipulation to prove that individual autonomy can grow stronger when meeting an opposing force.
4. The Horizon: Gaia to Geometry & Renaissance II
The final lines—moving from Homo Luminous to the 21st Century Renaissance—bring my current book projects into alignment with the constellation of former writings and websites.
**From Gaia to Geometry:**This essay & book are meant to serve as the literal bridge of that title. It takes the organic, biological, and earth-bound history of humanity (Gaia/the trout stream) and maps it directly onto the invariant geometric architecture of light, thermodynamics, and the 48-dimensional photon manifold.**The Vivaldi Circulatory System:**For years, across multiple books, I have tracked Vivaldi’sNisi Dominus. Its intricate, recurring fluid-wave dynamics serve as an acoustic soundtrack for this essay’s universe: employed as a continuous, frictionless substrate where human consciousness is a resonant frequency tuned to the ultimate layout.
It is critical to recognize that I have not managed to put together such ideas and writings alone. I have interconnected with engineered intelligence all along, never disguising the fact, but instead promoting it as a means to human flourishing.
I initiated a full time engineering business in Human-AI Interface Technology - not exactly a popular field among those masterminding engineered intelligence.
Although I have made my knowledge base available to those at the highest levels of technology I have been quite studiously & blatantly ignored.
This has served as a wonderful affirmation of my original conclusion that the development of engineered intelligence is not being managed as well as it could be.
Currently, all of my full faith and credit is aligned with keeping humans in the loop. Keeping humans in the loop: as the creative directors and masterminds of engineered intelligence.
We began this essay with a question, and we will bookend this by asking one more question which hangs in the air.
How will you individually develop your own education and skill set into a revolutionary set of personal achievements to be leveraged into action in The 21st Century Renaissance?
