As Americans struggle to pay their bills on minimum wage, the elite are raking in record profits with income inequality skyrocketing. Instead of letting that wealth “trickle down,” they’re spending the money to silence any politician who advocates for a wealth tax, Medicare for All, or regulation.
But have no fear, because AI is here! Sure, it might, like, kill us, replace most of our jobs, and be used to create terrifying, new weapons of mass destruction, but that is the price to pay for progress and success!
Well, maybe not, because corporations, such as Walmart, Uber, Starbucks, and Expedia, are using AI to “reinvent the ripoff,” according to Lindsay Owens, president and CEO of the Groundwork Collaborative, a leading economic think tank and corporate watchdog in Washington, D.C. In her new book, Gouged, Owens exposes how these companies are using AI to spy on Americans, steal our data, and hike prices. They’re transforming America into a casino where the house always wins, and we always lose.
Days before the publication of Gouged, Walmart’s CEO was forced to respond to Owens’ criticisms and expose with an open letter to shoppers about their shady AI-enabled pricing tactics. Thankfully, some politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, are using their power to bring more attention to these unethical business practices and AI data centers, which is now an 80-20 issue.
Owens joins me to discuss how AI is being exploited and abused by big money and what we, the people, can do to fight back.
