Friends, earlier today Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Mike Rogers in the Michigan Senate race.
I condemn Rep. Stevens for choosing MAGA over our democracy, distracting our family in these critical closing days, and endangering our opportunity to flip the Senate on Tuesday.
Here is what the Michigan Democratic Party just posted:
Here is a new statement from Leader Schumer:
Here is a new statement for Rep. Stevens’ now former Chief of Staff:
What do we do now? A few things:
1 - Do not lose focus. We have a midterm to win. There will be time to discuss what happened after Tuesday. We have three days of voting left and need to keep working as hard as we can.
2 - Double down on flipping the Senate. Here are ways you can do that, right now:
A New Fund To Support Abdul El-Sayed - Donate | $25,000 goal | Can we raise $25,000 today?
Winning The Senate Fund - Donate | $1,652,100 raised, $2,000,000 new* stretch* goal | Watch interviews with these Senate flippers | This fund splits a single donation to our six candidates must likely to flip a Senate seat this November - Sherrod Brown (OH), Adam Hamilton (KS), Troy Jackson (ME), Mary Peltola (AK), James Talarico (TX), and Josh Turek (IA).
This is the team who are going to flip the Senate people. Note that on 10/9 we expanded this fund to include Adam Hamilton - yes much is possible for us this year!
Winning Alaska - Donate | $49,800 raised, $150,000 goal | Our Winning Alaska Fund splits a contribution evenly among Mary Peltola for Senate, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for governor, and the Alaska Democratic Party and its great Chair, Eric Croft. Help Mary Peltola and the Alaska Dems fight back against Trump’s ridiculous attempt to steal this Senate seat!
Winning Iowa - Donate | $88,100 raised, $150,000 goal | Our Winning Iowa campaign splits a contribution three ways among Josh Turek for Senate, our gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand, and to the Iowa Democratic Party and it’s great Chair, Rita Hart.
**Winning Maine **- Donate | $112,100 raised, $150,000 goal | Our Winning Maine campaign splits a contribution evenly among Troy Jackson for Senate, Hannah Pingree for Governor, and the Maine Democratic Party and its battle-tested Chair, Charlie Dingman.
Winning Ohio - Donate | $300,100 raised, $300,000 new stretch goal | Our Winning Ohio campaign splits contributions evenly among Sherrod Brown, the Acton-Pepper ticket, and the Ohio Democratic Party and its terrific Chair, Kathleen Clyde. Help Dr. Acton fight back against these vile attacks!
Winning Texas (New) - Donate | $13,200 raised, $150,000 goal | Our Winning Texas campaign splits a contribution evenly among Gina Hinojosa, James Talarico, and the Texas Democratic Party and its impressive chair, Kendall Scudder.
This also just happened. It is very welcome news:
I also want to note that Senator Chris Murphy had a stroke yesterday. Join me in sending love to him and his family and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
For my latest take on things here’s a link to this morning’s post:
Some have asked why we had not already been supporting Dr. El-Sayed. The answer is simple - since Hopium launched in March of 2023 we have focused our work on defeating incumbent Republicans and building capacity in red states and red places. As a rule we don’t endorse or work for candidates in seats we currently hold, as flipping is harder than holding and that is what we’ve chosen to focus from Day One here at Hopium. That’s also why we did not endorse or work for any candidate in the Michigan Senate primary - for it just wasn’t a race we were going to prioritize, nor as a rule do we endorse in contentious primaries except in exceptional circumstances. Our focus has been and remains flipping seats that Republicans have, and taking power away from them. Other groups in our family have their priorities. Flippin’ has always been ours.
Today, however, we will make an exception to that general rule, and redouble our efforts now to flip the Senate this Tuesday!
We can do this people!
Now, let’s get back to work for we have a country to save, and elections like all these to win on Tuesday, together! - Simon
