Most people wouldn’t believe it - until it happens to them.
IBS bloating can be so intense it causes inner ear pressure or popping.
Blame the vagus nerve and internal pressure changes in the gut.
That does not mean gas is literally traveling to your ears. But it does show how your body is one connected system.
Your gut is packed with nerves, and IBS can make those nerves hypersensitive. When bloating, trapped gas, or abdominal pressure ramps up, the gut-brain axis can ramp up too.
The vagus nerve is one of the main communication highways between the gut, brain, throat, chest, and other body systems. So when the gut is distressed, the nervous system may amplify sensations in surprising places.
Ear pressure and popping usually involve the Eustachian tubes, which help balance pressure in the middle ear. But body tension, swallowing changes, reflux, throat irritation, sinus issues, jaw tension, and nervous-system sensitivity can all make those sensations more noticeable.
So your colon is not actually “popping” your ears.
But with IBS, the gut, brain, nerves, throat, and pressure-sensing systems can all get pulled into the same weird conversation, and we have to listen.
The takeaway? IBS affects far more than just digestion. It can change how your entire nervous system responds to pressure, pain, movement, and normal body signals. The gut-ear connection is yet another twist in the complex gut-brain axis.
And for fast relief of that IBS bloating and pressure brew your high volatile oil fennel tummy tea dark and strong…
You are not alone.
