If you have IBS, even a single glass of fruit juice might set off a flare.
Juices have highly concentrated fructose (fruit sugar) levels. Fructose is poorly digested by just about everyone. It can quickly set off cramps, urgency and diarrhea.
And fruit juices are often high in FODMAPS such as sorbitol and polyols, that cause bloating, gas, and spasms.
Since fruit juices - unlike whole fresh fruit - have no soluble fiber to regulate the glycemic load, all of those sugars and sugar alcohols hit your digestive tract
That can make IBS symptoms even more intense.
Avoid bottled apple, grape, and pear juice in particular.
And more IBS trigger foods…
You are not alone.
