First, just for fun, here’s a don’t-miss behind-the-scenes documentary video showing how President Trump has personally been working (with undercover help from one of our favorite senators) to get to the truth, straight from Ilhan Omar (Ilhan Elmi?), on what she may have done to get around U.S. immigration law. Trump must have been understandably frustrated with the fact that justice moves in baby steps.
Just for grins, and in response to a subscriber comment, we decided to ask AI if Omar formally took the oath of citizenship as a teenager, and it gave us a by-the-book answer: that, yes, not only did she take it but that she was 17 years old at the time. (Was she?) AI said this: “Omar became a U.S. citizen in 2000 after COMPLETING THE NATURALIZATION PROCESS [emphasis ours], which included taking the oath of allegiance.”
This statement is perplexing, because the immigration law under which she would have received derivative citizenship as a minor was passed in 2000 but didn’t go into effect until February 27, 2001. (What the hey? We’re not immigration lawyers here but are just bringing this up.)
Also, what naturalization “process”? Omar claims to have received citizenship through the naturalization of her father, who is now deceased. That means she didn’t have to complete the lengthy “process” lawfully required for adults who want to become citizens because she presented herself, without a birth certificate or other documentation that we know of, as a minor. If she had been just one year older, she would have been considered a legal adult and thus would have had to begin that process. Thanks for nothing, AI. You’ve obviously been reading The New York Times and therefore are useless.
