Least Surprising News of the Day! According to ** Pew Research**, only 2% of Americans trust the government to “just about always” do what’s right, with another 15% trusting it “most of the time.” When they first started doing this survey in 1958, the trust level in government was 73%.
Those who put all their faith in more and more government need to be reminded of what the government itself tells us, right on the currency: “In God we trust.” There’s a reason why it doesn’t say, “In government we trust.”
This week, voters are getting a great A-B comparison of what’s on the ballot in November. The GOP midterm convention promoted by President Trump is getting underway in Dallas, so there will be several days of speeches on Republican policies by prominent party figures (we assume outlets like MS NOW won’t cover it, except as a background visual to their talking heads denouncing it.)
Meanwhile, the Democratic Socialists of America (where all the energy and direction in the Democratic Party currently is) held a Labor Day event in Chicago called the 2026 Socialism Conference (Socialists always claim to speak for labor, even though real working people want nothing to do with them. In fact, a recent study found that their strongest support is among white people with college degrees who earn less than $60,000 – that is, elites who went into debt getting useless degrees in things like gender studies and who are resentful of anyone who makes more than they do, including plumbers, who are about a million times more useful to society.)
Jennifer Oliver O’Connell at Redstate.com ** has a report** on that free-range loony bin, and it sounds like a week’s worth of Babylon Bee satire stories, except it’s all true.
Our favorite part is the speaker who denounced new weight loss drugs as “body fascism” that’s “genociding fat people” and “putting Black flesh under colonial surveillance.” They claim to be “progressive” but they want to turn back the clock to the time when Lizzo was dangerously obese and showing off her body on magazine covers. Sadly, even she’s yielded to fascism and slimmed down.
If that doesn’t clue you in on what a retrograde collection of America- and capitalism-hating nutjobs these people are, note that attendees were required to wear COVID-era face masks. Or maybe that was just to hide their faces to keep their relatives from dying of embarrassment.
Incidentally, for any Democrats who are trying to argue that the Democratic Socialists don’t represent the Democratic Party (even though they are clearly working on taking it over completely), here’s California Gov. Gavin Newsom ** proudly pointing out all the DSA ideas** that the Democrats support by wide margins, from Medicare For All to the Green New Deal to banning fossil fuels. We’d toss in stacking the Supreme Court and a few other examples of Constitution-shredding idiocy. But thanks, Gavin, for pointing out the only difference between today’s Democratic Party and the socialists is that Democrats like you have far more expensive suits and practice actual hygiene.
The Democrats think that the key to winning in November is to find candidates who can make it through campaign season posing as facsimiles of normal human beings. But so far it’s not working because they’ve driven virtually every normal human out of the party. Their idea of a normal working man is Abdul El-Sayed, and we’ve seen how accurate a facsimile that is every time he opens his mouth. Like his latest pronouncement that believing you can get out of poverty by working hard is a “cult.”
Meanwhile, their idea of a normal Christian is Texas Senate candidate James Talarico. Judging by his ads, you’d think he was a pro-business, tax-cutting, small-town Baptist. His record shows he’s none of those things, and despite claims of him being a Biblical scholar, he seems to have studied at the Seminary of Woke. That’s where the Bible is rewritten freely to fit whatever is currently fashionable in leftist circles, from God being nonbinary to what Tararico said in the ** latest resurfaced video** about all religions being equal:
“I find that they’re all kind of equal pathways to truth. You know, that’s how I think, you know, I always think of all of the world’s faith traditions as like a circle with that divine mystery of the universe in the middle. And we all have different names for that mystery,...Whether it’s God or Yahweh or Allah or Nirvana, the Great Spirit, whatever you call it, this is all, you know, different pathways to the same kind of fundamental truth of reality,”
For the record, actual Christians use a Bible that has a verse called John 14:6 in which Jesus says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
So when you hear liberals claiming that Jesus was a socialist, remember that that’s impossible because a socialist could easily become a Democratic political nominee, but Jesus never could.
RELATED: ** Another resurfaced video** shows Talarico calling for moving away from “tough on crime” policies to “smart on crime” policies. He was referring to the kind of “criminal justice reforms” favored by leftist academics who think they’re smart but who have caused endless violent crime waves in blue cities, or as actual normal humans call them, “stupid on crime” policies. Although some of us call them “stupid on steroids.”
For the record, ** here’s how the Democrats’ soft on criminals policies work** out in real life. They’re so bad, they’re now even endangering Democrat politicians’ families. Maybe that will cause them to ponder the consequences, but we wouldn’t bet on it.
We’re so used to liberal Hollywood celebrities saying stupid things that we usually don’t even bother to mock them. But actor Ryan Reynolds may have set a new low mark – and a record for blowback – with his bizarre claim that the 1980s were a “brutal, brutal” time for people, just traumatic. For the record, he’s from Canada and was four when the ‘80s began.
The good part about his nonsensical comment is that it ** inspired a tsunami of replies** that are almost as colorful and fun as those great MTV videos of the glorious, Reagan-era boom time known as the ‘80s.
