I see it as an open question what will happen after Trump’s deadline tonight. Trump’s Putinesque nuke threats today are insane, but whether we’ll see an escalation or Trump will use his claim about regime change to justify another “TACO”, I have no idea. However, it’s very likely we’ll see massive Iranian retaliation in the Gulf if Trump decides to escalate. This will lead to a serious aggravation of the global energy crisis.

Should Trump decide to pull another TACO, the Middle East is left with an emboldened Iran in control for the Strait of Hormuz and a range of other clear strategic problems afterwards. I’ll discuss these on Thursday when we take stock together.

I have brought the live Q&A forward to 7 pm CET as I’ve been alerted that I might have to join a show on Danish TV at 9.15 that same evening. I hope it’s OK for the subscribers from North America.
