Hi there everyone,
As mentioned today on the podcast with Wajeeh (Malcolm was travelling”), I will take all paid subscribers on a tour of the so-called “forever wars” tomorrow night at 8 pm CET (2 pm EST).
Some of you may know that I’ve been deeply involved in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Syria and Somalia when I was at the DDIS. Often, media would describe the wars as great failures and the political talking points would often be like “we should have decided to stay out” etc.
I’ve often heard stuff like “nation-building is unrealistic”, “it’s all George W Bush’ fault” etc. Whatever political points of view folks have, it’s important to understand the context and not least draw the right conclusions. One size doesn’t fit all and these wars and regime changes have gone badly for a variety of reasons.
I hope you will join me tomorrow for the tour. If you aren’t a paid subscriber yet, please consider it. You find the Q&A via this link: https://open.substack.com/live-stream/182708?utm_source=live-stream-scheduled-upsell
Do feel free to ask questions about Ukraine as well. Actually, I was thinking about doing another one on Ukraine tomorrow, but since things are now unravelling in Mali for example, I decided to bring this topic forward. Don’t worry I certainly won’t forget Ukraine.
See you all tomorrow night!
Cheers,
Jacob
