Hey friends, let's jump on at 8:30 pm ET for tonight's Community Meeting.
Trump has double down on his vote buying scheme: $5000 for every adult in America if the Republicans win the house and the Senate in the midterms.
The federal law, 18 USC section 597, says the following: “Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate . . . shall be fined under this title or imprisoned . . .”
Some people say there's Supreme Court precedent - a case called Brown vs. Hartlage - that's stands for the proposition that Donald Trump's vote buying scheme is not illegal because it enjoys First Amendment protection.
Can we put that claim to the test? Let's discuss at tonight's Community Meeting, which will be something of a Team Justice law school class.
See you at 8:30.
